When ever I watch Top Gun I get the urge to watch Hotshots right after it.
(if you Haven't seen it, as a Top Gun fan you will love it. Probably)

Once Upon a Time in the West- Sergio Leone- stunning in my opinion.
Once Upon a Tiime in America- Likewise
Fargo- Epic perfection. I love the tree shredder scene for utter Shakespearian stupidity.
No country for old men
Bladerunner

...and for out and out guffaw laughs and great memories...Withnail & I. Possibly north of 50 viewings and still not bored. "Boy, I mean to have you boy, even if it must be burglary."

Why is it that everyone who loves Withnail and I always seems to quote the homosexual rape threat as an example of the brilliance of the film? If I'd never seen it (I have, and consider it to be self-indulgent bilge) then that one line wouldn't encourage me.

It's like Monty Python. They may be funny films, they may not, but by the time one (or two, or three or many) people have spent five minutes reciting lines and falling about laughing, it just makes me want to smash my own ears in with a hammer.

Right then:

Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky

A wonderfully amazing film by a genius. (and the one which killed him and most of the crew!!)
A film about hope, religion, faith, science, folly and so much more.

The Shawshank Redemption

The gayest striaght film ever, however you've seen it right?

Ink

Indie Sci-Fi masterpiece!

North by Northwest

Hitchcock is the master of suspense!!

Brazil

Because Gilliam is an expensive (time and money) genius and Jonathan Pryce the master of innocent hero!

Withnail is a very funny film which is also full of sadness. I didn't quote the buggery scene as an example of its brilliance. The final scene is particularly tragic and was supposed to have ended with Withnail blowing his head off with a shotgun.
