Forbidden Planet
2001
I think I may agree with 2001, it's not really a movie.Forbidden Planet
2001
But Forbidden Planet, I do love it, and it's in my top sci-fi, but I watched it recently and though a remake would be good. THere's so much of the time period in it, it's incredibly dated verbally/culturally.

Basically, don't remake any film that was good the first time round. End of. Remaking crap films is worth doing however.
Also don't cover good songs unless you're gonna do something radical with it. Wtf's that Weezer cover of Africa all about? It's virtually identical so what's the point? Hard to
Handle and Hurt are two examples of cover versions that were superb and better than the originals.

It today's franchise obsessed hollywood, not one of those old 80s classics will be allowed to die. And all of them are ste compared to the originals.

The Third man (Yes, there was a TV spinoff, with Michael Rennie)
The good the bad the ugly

Lawrence of Arabia.
That's more like it.. A proper list.. Hat's off. The Third man (Yes, there was a TV spinoff, with Michael Rennie)
The good the bad the ugly
The cruel sea
Lawrence of Arabia.
I'll add..
All the Ealing comedies, in fact all the films produced by British companies up until the 1970's..
North by Northwest... My favourite Cary Grant film I think...

You've all missed THE film that should never be re-made under any circumstances, Dirty Harry.
You can't remake that, how would they handle this scene in modern times.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rcIJIWqYmo

You could always just ignore the remake, it's not like Hollywood deletes the original from your memory.
Some remakes are arguably better films. Heat, Scarface, Departed and even the new Jumanji spring to mind.
But I agree that most classics should be left well alone, especially Ferris Buellers Day Off which simply wouldn't work in the modern era anyway!
New Jumanji isn't really a reamke though, its a sequel? Some remakes are arguably better films. Heat, Scarface, Departed and even the new Jumanji spring to mind.
