I wonder if they'll ever get around to re-showing StreetHawk?
It was on a year or two ago (on ForcesTV again, I think, it must be the home of '80s classics). I wonder if they'll ever get around to re-showing StreetHawk?
One episode had George Clooney in it.
That's another show that even though you remember it being a big show from your youth there are only a dozen episodes and there wasn't a 2nd season.
It is the epitome of rose-tinted spectacles. I ached for that bike when I was younger, to the point of tarting up my BMX to be more Streethawk, therefore the disappointment of watching the show again in my 30's was palpable.
Knight Rider, The A-Team and The DofH stand up to the test of time. Airwolf is so-so. The rest are best left in the archive IMO.

That's because, and I say this as a fan in my youth, Streethawk is crap

It's not one of the better shows of it's time, certainly. It is the epitome of rose-tinted spectacles. I ached for that bike when I was younger, to the point of tarting up my BMX to be more Streethawk, therefore the disappointment of watching the show again in my 30's was palpable.

I recall a few bikes in the Raleigh catalogues of the time that kinda resembled StreetHawk, though. The Raleigh Vektar, Raleigh Street Wolf, and the Raleigh Wildcat spring to mind...
Unlike the cool kids, I never had one. I had to resort to humming the theme tune while I tried to keep up on my second-hand Grifter...

I recall a comic called Hoot launched by offering The Raleigh Vektars to winners, I think they had 6 on offer.
Street Hawk was a bit rubbish. Even at the 9 years old, I could see that it was silly and obviously sped up.
The local (everywhere had one then) Raleigh dealer had them in stock and I sat on a Vektor.
It probably weighed as much as my Grifter, approx. 50Kg...

I recall STreethawk, the bike looked cool and the costume, but when he went 300mph...
Of those from the time; Airwolf is the only one, first series and the pilot especially that still stands up. Magmun is a different genre, but it's actually a very good programme regardless of time specs or whatever. I never saw Blue Thunder (loved the film) so cannot talk on that one.
I never saw Manimal or Automan either. Watched a few A-Team recently, bloody awful, but watched with 80's child specs....bloody awful.
I remember liking Hardcastle and McCormack.

Hardcastle & McCormick was brilliant - at least the 1st season was before the Coyote morphed into a Delorean based monstrosity.Of those from the time; Airwolf is the only one, first series and the pilot especially that still stands up. Street Hawk is on the Paramount Network which I think is Channel 31 on Freeview at Stupid O'Clock.
The music is brilliant and the actual bike stunts were great!
I'm sure one of the main stunt riders was Welsh and he bought a number of original bikes back to the UK after the show finished.

Magnum is another different one - it was the first network TV show to portray Vietnam Vets' in a positive light.
There was also a lot more going on in the sub-plots than was evident to the casual viewer especially Magnum's obsession in later episodes to prove that Higgin's was actually Robin Masters.
I watched them all fairly recently and was surprised that it was a lot better and far deeper than I realised as a 10 year old.

The 308 wheel spinning sliding off the grass in the titles made Magnum for me.
I loved that as a kid!Only recently did I find out that, at 181 lb ft at 5,000 rpm, the grass was the only way to light the tyres up
Just before that, we see the ceremonial ditching of the roof for almost the entire series - the only way Tom Selleck could 'fit' inside.

Same. I watched Magnum a few years ago, just for fun, and it was actually really really good, so I watched them all, on whichever channel they were on. I had no idea they went rather metaphysical at the end.
I quite fancy watching airwolf pilot now. Are they on any channel?
Tom Selleck is a far better actor than he gets credit for, in my opinion. And he's grown better as he's aged too. I loved the original Magnum series, and would happily settle down to watch them again. I also really like the current Jay Hernandez reboot, with Perdita Weeks as a re-imagined Higgins. They even got a 308 into one episode as a tribute, when Magnum broke the 488 he drives in the reboot. I think Tim Kang steels every scene he's in in the reboot though. I quite fancy watching airwolf pilot now. Are they on any channel?
The biggest problem with all these re-showings of the TV of my youth is that I have a limited amount of time to watch TV, and watching old shows means I can't be watching new stuff too. I just can't fit in all that I'd like to. Even if some of it is more than just a little bit rubbish...

I remember the TV series, but never saw the film. Around the same time as "Tales of the Gold Monkey" was on, early evening BBC.
The film is still something I'd watch today, no goggles needed, it's a damn good film with great performances from all concerned. Not sure it needs a remake, same as Robocop, it had an edge.

Never interested in motor-bicycles so didn't watch Street Hawk .
Personally, I say it's time Automan was shown again, although I suspect this will have aged far worse than any of the above!
As an aside, this thread prompted me to dig out the DVDs and watch a few old Knight Rider episodes last night. Surprised to see Wendy Schaal in one (voice of Francine from American Dad) and a child in another played by a very young Jason Bateman!Personally, I say it's time Automan was shown again, although I suspect this will have aged far worse than any of the above!

Manimal?
I believe Manimal is far better remembered in the UK where it was shown in primetime when we only had 3 channels, than it is in the USA where it was quite rightly forgotten.See also: The Red Hand Gang a popular '80s school holidays show here and unknown in the States. ("Starring James Bond III")
