The missus was given a pair of tickets for an advance screening on the 5th I think, but it is a black tie do starting at a Peugeot dealer of all places, with free drinks and finger food before the off to the screening, and I suspect will be dragged out from a charity event into some big speechathon by people I don't know or will ever see again about things that I have no care for...
Still, free night out!

Well the dodgy little oriental DVD man had copies for a fiver yesterday when he came round! I just couldn't bring myself to watch a crappy copy at home, all new bond films should be seen on the big screen, atleast for the first time.

Not enjoyed a Bond film for a long time, the last one I thought was a little flat, there was no tension or excitement but it was the best one since Moore stopped doing them.

Colleague of mine is doing some filming on the red carpet outside the premier, and says the opening three minutes are a spectacular car chase smile

What does 'Quantum of Solace'( proper noun?) mean ?
Its taken from an original Fleming short story and its something along the lines of 'when a man loses the woman he loves there isn't a quantum of solace left in the world'.
I quite like the phrase to be honest.

Prepares to be corrected by wikipedia wielder
According to dictionary.com, it means something like "an amount of misery"
It means 'amount of comfort' - in this context , a very small amount
Isn't the singular of quantum quanta? I believe a quanta is the smallest possible discrete unit of something, hense quantum physics is the theory that energy is in the form of small discrete packets rather than something more fluid like measures of water in a glass. So a quanta of solace is the smallest possible amount of solace, and quantum of solace refers to either multiple particles of solace or the subject of solace being available in tiny little bits of solace. Anyway, I'm going to go kill a cat, or am I?

Bit of a rough diamond I thought, some bits are genius and the movie has depth not seen in CR. Other chunks of it however seem stitched together, great action scenes but characters dont develop, nor does the plot really. After CR I was left disappointed. I mean come on, excessive cocktails in virgin upper class = deep anguish, i dont think so. and what the F is Quantum? what happened to introducing Spectre as the organisation "with people everywhere"? the great villianous threat, a f'ing water utility in the third world. hmmmm..... northern rock did more damage.

In many ways QoS was poor, and I suspect $$$ earned will be less that CR. It wont be remembered as a movie for many, just a stepping stone betwen Bond21 and Bond23. On the other hand QoS has an enduring quality that means I am looking forward to seeing it again on Friday and suspect I will see it more on the dvd than CR.

Ps. yes first few minutes of DBS are just glorious, shame thats the last we see of the aston but otherwise good advert for Ford and ex-ford cars.

I can't wait for this movie! I'll be recapping on the last one later next week in preparation biggrin

Mum and Dad received a family invition, from our Aston dealer, to go to an advanced screening. A black tie affair and £50 per head, for a charity do.
It's a shame we couldn't make it! banghead

Saw it tonight. Will need to watch it again but bored in parts - no plot. DBS is glorious.

Sorry to say that early reviews of the new Bond film don't all look promising....

Well there have been some good reviews but a surprising amount of negative ones, waiting to see for myself. Trailer looks very awesome, but another trashed Astonyikes This time minus a door and plenty of bullet holes.
Sod the negative reviews, what do critics know? they bring nothing of thier own to the table and yet destroy people's hard work if they deem it to be crap. fk em.

I went to a charity screening of QoS last night with an open mind. Quite a few of the press reviews have been mixed so I went expecting a certain level of dissapointment.
Opening sequence is great and the DBS sounds glorious. I spent most of the sequence sqirming at the damage to the car, and thinking [anarak]how that suspension was taking a hammering.[/anarak]
The 'Binder' esq title sequence is fantastic and actually does work well with dissapointment of a theme tune(what's with the moaning bit in the middle?). I think this is a far grittier Bond than Casino, darker and more functional. Judy Dench has a much bigger part in QoS and i as usual superb. The Bond girls are excellent and Dominic Green the arch villian is pretty good. The action sequencies are definitely as good and in some places better.
Craig for me is really fitting well into that Brioni Tom Ford, the 'making Bond more human' aproach has really brought Bond upto date and imo now surpassed the Bourne comparisons.
There really wasn't a single part that left me thinking 'oh that was crap', great REAL stunts, no CGI (that I noticed) and great acting.
If Casino Royale was a 9/10, then I think Quantum of Solace is a 8.5/10.
I can't wait to see it again... (may move it up to 9 as well)

Go see it and Enjoy!

Never watched Casino Royale and couldn't give a care about the new one.
Casino Royale is absolutely superb. Its in a completely different vain to every other Bond movie. Gadgets are gone, storyline is back, CGI is largely gone. CR makes a mockery of all the Bond films in the past, and Daniel Craig makes the part his own. Easily better than all the previous Bond actors.
CR is a diferent formula to the older Bond films and is very good. The older bond films with Sean Connery and Roger Moore were good in their own right. Bearing in mind when they were made and that they deliberately had the gadgets and the cheesy lines. That was what Bond films were all about. Both Connery and Moore were good bonds too.

I think the Lazenby one was pants due to his wooden performance and lack of charisma. The Dalton ones were neutral and the later ones like "Die another day", or what ever it was were trash. They were made like the Batman films or the X-men. Completely the wrong formula for Bond, totaly way over the top and complete crap. Remember the para surfing on the artic tidal wave and driving through the collapsing ice building? Who ever put that together should have been laughed off the production.

Cr has bought us a new bond, why compare him to the others? Enjoy him in his own right. But bring back some gadgets and the shagging. lol Oh, and i was disappointed with the lack of car action in CR.

I also saw it last night and really enjoyed it.

The villans evoke more hatred, and whilst the plot isn't particularly complex, it nicely sets up new version of Smersh (?) for future movies.

The action sequences are as good, although how an Alfa 159 keeps up with a DBS is beyond me.

It is, again, Bond unplugged without pretend tech frippery.

The Bond girls also get more depth than just being arm candy (although they do that well too).

I would also give it 8.5/10.
