Well, this thread has gone pretty much as I expected it would when I opened it.

Seems that the acceptable PH "grumpy old man" answer is to say it's ste and that you listen to Radio 4 whilst drinking a fine cognac.

Personally I like Radio 1 and seldom listen to any other radio station. I have a wide taste in music and don't mind a bit of mainstream pop and there are no adverts.

Moyles can be amusing in the morning as can Scott Mills in the afternoon. They're probably the only two I listen to as they correspond to my commute.

High five... beeeeeeeeeeeep.

Still, I like the script, mostly.
EFA.
Or that.

I have enjoyed other scripted things in the past too.

Have you seen Die Hard?
Once or twice. Does Chris Moyles play a gobby cock-end in that too?
I don't think so.

Why do you listen to Chris Moyles on Radio 1, gobby cock-end that he is?

I listen because I like him and think he's funny. The chat bits, you know. The script.
Is it scripted chat, or a chatty script?
I heard the gobby cock-end once, very briefly, when someone from junior management left the radio in a company pool car incorrectly tuned, that's all. I sent an email explaining the error of their ways and it hasn't happened since.

Such a shame that it's eating away at you like this!

I watched part of an episode of Coronation Street once, when I was waiting for my girlfriend to get ready to go out. I didn't like it.

But if anybody talks about it now, or mentions it in a thread on an internet forum, it doesn't dredge up painful feelings of bitterness and resentment, and an inability to let it pass without blurting out my remembered-feelings and dismay.

I'm glad about that too. Because I prefer to concentrate on things I like.

Like Die Hard (have you ever seen that?)

Not to worry. I'm off to play in a meadow.

One of the worst bits about Radio one is when they do the news. fk off with your hip take on the news "Newsbeat"
Agree. Especially when they read the headline at the start of the news, play a 3 second jingle and then repeat the exact same line. rage

In general, I find it OK in small doses but it is very presenter dependant, and there are too many bad one these days.

Scott Mills & Greg James - Good.
Chris Moyles - has his moments, but on the whole, not great.
Zane Lowe is OK (and so much better than that Steve Lamaq chap) but the problem with his show is that he covers so many genres that the chance of him playing something 'new' and to your tastes, is small.
Sara Cox has got better over the years.

The rest, pretty poor (especially Westwood, Matt Edmondson and Nick Grimshaw - instant switch off if I even hear their voices)

yes Got to agree with you there. She used to irritate the hell out of me when she did the breakfast show years ago, but when she covered for Moyles for 2 days recently I quite liked her.

Dare I say it, I think she's one of the best DJs on the radio at the moment. Just sounds like she's enjoying herself, funny, plays good music on her personal choices (think it was on her show that I heard Frank Turner for the first time), and generally doesn't take it too seriously. Fingers crossed Fearne Cotton goes off to have a baby so Coxy can sit in for her!

Fortunately he is rarely on Radio 1. He has been relegated to 1 Extra (a spin off station for 'da kidz' I believe).

I feel sorry for those subjected to passive radio one, it should be banned in the work place, bad enough that they take up this vile habit let alone subjecting other people to it.

I used to be passively subjected to a commercial nostalgia station called Breeze AM.

There's only so many times a day you can unwillingly listen to Gerry & The Pacemakers without going bananas.

Anything you're forced to listen to when you don't want to, is ghastly.

I never thought I'd be saying this, but I like Sara Cox. For years I had (well, never had to as such, just prefered to) switch off the radio when she came on.

But recently, I've had a few genuine laugh out loud moments listening to her, and quite enjoy her covering who ever is off sick/on holiday.

Not really. Take one part Mark and Lard, one part Collins and Maconie, mix them all together, allow the Lard to float to the top and skim it off, strain out the Collins (using a Collinder jester ) and bake at Radio 2.
