Am I the only one that likes Apocalypto?
Looks like it, how about some deadpan Finnish humour?

Just watched 'Gomorrah' and 'A Prophet'.

Gomorrah was just like slipping into a new world, very good indeed.

A Prophet was also superb, well worth a watch as well, great acting. I speak French fluently and spent a lot of time amongst 'les barbu' and 'les Corse', the slang in the film is terrific and the characterisations are spot on.

Five stars each, and a refreshing change from the mainstream.

Allez, casse-toi.

Seven samurai is one of my all time favorites plus the rest of Toshiro Mifune's early stuff.
Also love Triplets of Belleville, some wonderful characterisation.

hehe Last Tango in Paris? Can't even remember if that has any dialogue at all, english or frenchscratchchin

'Man bites dog' is good if alarmingly violent.
'The Hairdressers husband'; if you like Amelie you should enjoy it.

'Run Lola run' is a very simple but clever film.

On a not disimlar note, I'm quite surprised (although I know this isn't "The Lounge") that no-one's mentioned "Baise Moi"?
Why, because it's a porno loosely marketed as a legitimate movie? I thought it was terrible. There are a million better French films that actually are tasteful, well made, funny and thought-provoking.

Err, hence my comment acknowledging this isn't in The Lounge.

'Hors de Prix' ('Priceless') is very, very good. It's a romantic comedy, but it's a cut above the usual stuff we would class as such. Very stylish, well filmed and none of the comedy is lost in translation at all. Excellent thumbup

And that's not all - it's got Audrey Tautau in it, looking awesome from start to finish, which should be reason enough for the average PHer!
Yeah its a great film. And Audrey Tautou does look AMAZING throughout!

The Wave (Die Welle) is also good as well as "Karthik calling Karthik" which is a very watchable Bollywood film about a schizophrenic man who's 'new' persona is mega confident and gets him places.
