Ah yes. The first time I saw Event Horizon I practically shat myself. It loses its power with repeat viewings like most. The first time I saw "Alien" was fairly exciting too. Especially as you knew bad things were going to happen to John Hurt's character..the anticipation was worse than the actual scene!
Whenever this topic comes up the first film I think of is EV. I watch a lot of horror read a lot of horror and this film is the only one that has truly freaked me out!

I do not want to see that, who the fk would ever want to see it?
What the fk!?
Not surprised at the plot seeing as it is a Serbian film made by a Serbian. Refer to modern history 1992 to 1995 if you have no idea what I'm on about.

Disgusting.
That's fking wrong.
clicked the wikipedia link, thinking "this will be gross, but I can't imagine it will be worse than some of the other dreadful stuff one reads about, such as Saw and Hostel (haven't seen and don't want to see either)".

It was much, much worse. only a diseased imagination could come up with that. That people actually collaborated to make it into a film is rather worrying.
A quick count on IMDB shows there were 57 people in the cast and crew.

57, all of whom were part of a vehicle that depicted new-born baby raping.

Jesus.
Made me feel sick just reading that.
Very weird.

How does one go about writing something like that? You've got to have a REALLY messed up head haven't you..

The end of [Rec] is pretty scary.

I haven't seen A Serbian Film but I doubt it is frightening, more difficult to watch like Martyrs, Irreversible, etc.

If you want truly unnerving, try "A Serbian Film"...

Please remember, what has been seen, cannot be unseen...
FFS.

That wins, hands down.

A lot of folk rate this film, I went to see it thinking it was a sci-fi flick, but the black-holes-are-gateways-to-hell plot was just too silly for me. Didn't get it at all, could you explain why you liked it/were freaked out by it?

That's pretty fked up, and I think that there is a difference between messed up and scary. There are trailers online plus the opportunity to watch it online, but I think I'll be giving it a miss

Here's the trailer.

Strictly NSFW.

Although you can't actually see anything really bad in it.

Wish I could explain it (I meant EH not EV)possibly the suspense/ build up/ claustrophobia, no chance of getting away etc, I think just picturing myself in that environment (the unknown). I don't really know but I am a horror fan and can stomach most things and not feel jumpy after the film has finished. Didn't help that I watched it on my own (again I have done this with plenty of others though)

I don't bother much with Horror films any more, in a genre that can give us Scary Story 27 I think we have seen most ideas before, though I may look out for some of the suggestions on this thread.

That said, I think some of the episodes of Sapphire and Steel would be scary even today...

Its still American Werewolf In London. Scary then, scary now, mainly because most of the people in it you really care about & like so when truly horrible things happen to them its even more affecting.

Nothing that makes me jump, but one that - for me - has an unrelenting creepiness about it is "The Serpent & The Rainbow"

To... er, 'understand' it, you have to realise that the film uses the characters/storyline as a vehicle to visualise the horrific way that the people of Serbia were treated by their Government and Armed Forces through years and years of abuse.
