Watched the Range Rover review last night - what a tremendous vehicle.
With all that tech built into it now though, its never going to be one you'd want to own outside of warranty!
Its the electronic rear cup holder that seems the most ridiculous, at 5 years old I can see it breaking and costing thousands to replace the mechanism. With all that tech built into it now though, its never going to be one you'd want to own outside of warranty!
Great car however for people who can afford to run them from new for 3 years. Previously the depreciation used to make that a horrific prospect but we are in different times.
I still can't see a £120k (when new) Diesel Range Rover being massively desirable in 5 years however.
I still have my 2005 Range Rover Supercharged Vogue which I bought new. A couple of minor glitches, but still going fine.
In its 150,000 mile odyssey it has had new suspension airbags, new suspension air reservoir and some rust over the rear wheel arches repaired. That's it. Never a problem with the V8 engine - runs like new.
It is now worth about the same price as a frozen chicken, so no point selling it as it's still a Range Rover and drives like it always did.
If the new ones last as long, then they're a good purchase.

With videos as good as this - you can see the end of normal telly.

Such a beautiful car!

Enjoyed the RR review.
Have to agree with the design comments.
Yes it is a bit monolithic...but then it's Range Rover.
And actually in a world of extensive fakery, slashes and over manipulated sheet metal, a return to subtle, classy surfaces is REALLY welcome.
It's an icon. It only need portray the iconic bits. Less is most definitely more when it comes to car design.
Original Countach vs Anniversary model for example
If it can prove reliable, then it just might be the one car to do pretty much everything you'd ever need.
(Which I don't want, just to be clear...I'd rather a garage of (beautifully designed) cars to do each job
)

LOVE a Silvertsone Auction video ![cloud9](/inc/images/cloud9.gif)
I find it quite funny the 'spin' they put on the cars e.g. the 996 GT2, in the less-sought after Comfort spec:
"without the unsightly scaffolding of the roll cage in the back"
"the more forgiving Sports Seats.."
![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
(Also, the 996 Turbo S has got the wrong front bumper on it
)
Can't believe some of the prices, e.g A P1 going for less than a fairly boggo 2007 4 door impreza![eek](/inc/images/eek.gif)
The 1962 Merc SL - I know its not a Gullwing, but seems really cheap for that
Also, buyers premium of 12.5%??![yikes](/inc/images/yikes.gif)

12.5 % is pretty reasonable these days. It's also negotiable for good customers.![cloud9](/inc/images/cloud9.gif)

And if I were ever in the market for a GT2, I'd take no cage and comfortable chairs.
Watched some of the auction live. A few cars I saw struggled to get to reserve and were unsold. I wonder if Collecting Cars with their lower fees are taking more market share? This plate made me chuckle, glad to see Harry didn't lower the tone of his walkaround and include it but I hope it made him chuckle...

I would rather have a road spec Sport Quattro to be honest (rummages around in imaginary piggy-bank). I know this one is race prepped, but it isn't as if it has a massive race history with wins. Then again, I always preferred the "long" wheelbase Ur-Quattros.
I didn't see the auction, but in the preview the cars seem to fall into one of two categories. Either "that could be a decent investment" or "that is way too expensive and will probably drift downhill from here". I still get warm happy thoughts when I see a nice Sierra
RS500 though, even if they must surely have peaked now. It would look good sat next to the white one seen in the background.

I watched a good part of the auction. It seemed as though they had very few bidders in the room (very few people at all actually), obviously some unknown number online and by phone. Bidding on most cars seemed to have only a few interested parties, usually just one or two. There were some that attracted some enthusiastic bidding but those were the exception. A number of reserves were lifted to make a sale at a number below what was hoped for. I don't know if that is typical for Silverstone or if this was unusual.
