Another Sky Price Increase
Discussion
Up until about Christmas I was paying £68 a month for full mashings. All channels, sports, hd, movies fibre optic broadband - the lot. Came to and end and Bill jumped to £108, just got round to cancelling it and it went off last week (tv that is, broadband contract ends in June so have given notice for ending that too).
Survived so far for about 10 days as I'm plumbed into our kids sky go on the PS3, and it has all the catch ups on too. Not had any offers yet, hoping to get something soon.
Never thought to check inline til reading this thread, will do it now and see if owts there.

This thread prompted me to log in to mysky again to see what offers were on showing for me to ignore and now they are teasing every package at 50% off (12 months) with a £25 account credit on top.
Example:
Just goes to show how random it is - I've been with them for years. Am now out of contract. Never had THAT offer - and I rang them on Thursday last week to cancel Movies and Sports after getting the "we're increasing your bill" letter a while back. They offered me half price Sports straight away - for 4 months! So I said (edited for here) "no, just remove them". In the end they offered me a new deal of 38 a month for the Family pack - which is all the non Sports/Movies stuff plus some extra kids channels I won't watch - for 6 quid a month less than I would have paid just taking Sports and Movies off. As that's half what I was paying I was happy.Example:
If I'd seen that post offering everything for 12 months at half price, I might have been arguing on the phone with them rather longer!

Nothing for me on either my sky online or the app. I have just received a call from Sky retentions team (or summat) asking if they can talk me into reconnecting, told them to ring me later as I'm busy..... £20 Fibre optic broadband, phone & line rental.
£35.25 Full TV package, HD movies sports etc.
12 month deal, 12 month contract. Chuffed to bits with this as my last 3 bills have been £113, £128 & £118. Asked about deals on Sky Q and the lady said there was nothing available.
I switched from Sky to BT at the end of Feb. Don't really like the layout of BT, but getting used to it now. Also, the broadband service doesn't seem as good as Sky's was.
As BT's prices are going up by £2 a month soon, I can use that reason to get out of the deal, and using the advice above, go back to Sky. Very tempted and shouldn't be much hassle as I have all the equipment. Just know its gonna be huge hassle next year when it comes up for renewing, but like that with anyone now I guess.

It will be a hassle either way. Both BT and Sky are likely to increase prices again and again knowing that millions will just pay up. For similar reasons Mrs BC and I switch between the AA and RAC on alternate years to take advantage of the new customers discount.Just know its gonna be huge hassle next year when it comes up for renewing, but like that with anyone now I guess.
I spoke to sky yesterday on the web chat about this price rise. Ours has just gone up, so now I am paying £115 per month. I didn't realise I was paying so much until they sent the price increase letter.
Anyway, after saying I'm going to BT, the lady on the chat said she'd look at our charges. Immediately dropped it down to £76 a month for all the channels except movies, line rental, and the unlimited fibre. Going to keep this until my contract on the fibre expires in July then look at cancelling all together. We hardly use it.

True. It is a massive PITA all this switching. But I can only imagine how much extra they make out of those who are oblivious to what they are paying. About to ring BT and see if they can persuade me stay.
Gave BT a call, didn't seem to want to budge on price or offer me anything special to stay, but did agree I could cancel penalty free, so I think I probably will do. I've found Sky's setup to be much more user friendly.andyjo1982 said:

Did you speak with the retentions department & tell them you were leaving?Just my update - fed up with BT broadband dropping /stopping around 6:00PM so I switched online to sky BB.
BT got back in touch via text, so I called. They offered free upgrade to fiber, I pay £8 for the hub, £10 fiber unlimited per month plus land line, free sport basic or £5 per month for BT sport.
Sky then matched free fiber install / free hub delivery / same £10ppm and about 50p cheaper for the land line.

To update I just called Sky as I was getting to the end of my contract and I had not called they would have increased the charge to £77-50 per month.
Agreed £38.20 for the next 12 months which is exactly what I am currently paying. For this I have multi room, sport and the family package.

Does frustrate me that they vary so much in what they offer people. I was in a similar position with the increase and decided to cancel the sport and movies. In the end I got on a similar priced deal, which worked out cheaper than if I had just removed sport and movies. Which is fine for me - but then when they offer you a similar price WITH sports still incl, there's just no consistency. The best they could offer was Sports at half price...for 3 months - which would cover the summer when I would barely watch it anyway. I told them a polite no, to that...Agreed £38.20 for the next 12 months which is exactly what I am currently paying. For this I have multi room, sport and the family package.
I may see what deals there are come August (not many, I guess) or just stream the matches I want to watch.
