Odd technical, not so much a baking challenge rather something out of The Island with Bear Grylls - Who can master a fire? Next year, it’ll be roasting marshmallows on a fire or baking a cake on a bbq.
Showstoppers were a little underwhelming for the final, but I thought Ruby’s probably looked the best. But fair play to Rahul, he seemed to be the most consistent. And was it just me or did he seem to loosen up a little this time around? Seemed to join in with the banter a bit more.

Anyone else pretty disappointed with this year? No one was "wow that's a great bake" imo.
Showstopper was terrible, and technical was too difficult.
Agree totally, not sure how Rahul won and thought all the showstoppers looked unappetising. Lots of nice people in the series but the final was a let down.Showstopper was terrible, and technical was too difficult.

On master chef the amateur contestants end up cooking at a professional level towards the end of the competition. On bake off they seem nowhere near that kind of level.
I'd agree previous series have seen better bakes, but I think there are a couple of reasons for this:1) the challenges seemed to be a lot harder this year. I think there was a pastry one where they only had something like 3 hours, but they cut to Prue or Paul saying that usually you'd take that amount of time just to fold and chill it. So setting them up to fair from the start. I thought a lot of the technical's were more about luck than ability.
2) bearing in mind the summer we had, I imagine it must have been almost unbearably hot in the tent at times. So with the time constraints as well, getting things cooled seemed impossible. Perhaps a fairer approach would be to break the showstopper into 2 parts - say 2 hours to bake the cake or whatever, then break for lunch and let it cool, then another hour afterwards to decorate.

It was both a contrast to the very good opening rounds and to the previous 3 years competitions where the winners (Nadiya, Candice and Sophie) have finished the series looking really proficient. Though, whilst I am biased, I think I might have just about put KJ in that category if her final bake had been better and she'd have won.I think they pushed the envelope a bit too far on this one
Its great seeing drama and some last minute stress but for some of the bakes as someone above said they just didn't give them enough time, the technical was a nonsense as well.
Hopefully they'll reign it back in for the next series

I can't help but feel the final was a fix. Rahul was protected and carried to the final with concessions to help him survive when his last few weeks were not great. I'd rate him as the weakest in the final three.
Ruby will have a minor TV career after this, Kim Joy will continue to be good at whatever she does, if I never see Rahul's smug little face again I won't be upset.

Have to agree with the general feeling here...
- It was all a bit of a let down
- All 3 were pretty average in the final
- The challenge on the fire was poor
- Rahul is clearly a good baker, but squeaked through in previous weeks (especially when Manon went)
- Kim Joy was probably the best overall, but I would expect Ruby to be the most marketable for TV / books
- They need to calm it down for the next series as some of the challenges were just silly
- FFS why can't they cool / air con the tent - I want to see people win on merit, rather than watch something fall apart due to heat
I'll have to say that Kim-Joy is a very talented artist - her designs and the quality with which they were carried out were outstanding. I'm sure she could have a successful career designing cakes for special occasions, as long as someone else actually baked them!
No doubt Rahul will now continue his working career. Ruby will be the new face of Saturday Breakfast or whatever it's called.

New series and the usual mix of contestants. Alice is pretty.

I’m already a fan of Steph after seeing her with the SL300 gullwing. Mums business seems to have a very nice collection of classics. http://sjbclassiccars.co.uk/Spanish girl told Hollywood she'd make a furry garden. These continental types never shave.
