Paddy's been on Instagram blaming the rain
‘I finally got to drive one of my fantasy childhood cars, the Lamborghini Diablo, but it turns out 30-year-old supercars don’t like torrential rain, who’d have thought.

‘If you’ve ever owned a Diablo or you’ve driven one you’ll know just as well as me, oh my god, she can be a cruel mistress, she can be a cruel mistress that one.

Who exactly are the people following TG around when they're filming? I'm not talking about the crew; I'm talking about the 'normal' public. Are they the same people who line the streets in Alderley Edge and Knightsbridge with their cameras and their Ferrari hats?

"The presenter was driving a £250k Lamborghini Diablo supercar when he misjudged a corner and skidded on oil in the road in North Yorkshire (pictured: the car covered by tarp)"

Yeah, right hehe

Yes, simply haven been driven by Paddy is enough to lower its value.
Tough crowd tonight.

From the photos, all I can say is, Man, that XJ220 is pretty!
They are lovely looking things aren't that. My late grandfather helped in designing the fuel tanks for them! (that isn't very interesting, I know hehe )

I know that it is only a car, but I feel sad to see this Diablo in this state. I bet the owner is livid and I know I would be.
yep this is always the potential when you let some talent less wannabee presenter behind the wheel .....

The owner should have know the risks before lending it to Top Gear, it’s not as if they are known for being gentle with cars. I’m sure there’s lots of insurance.
Yes and that is true. I guess my OCD is just coming into play, and cars are never the same again once they've been repaired and repainted for me.
Plus, it's just a car. They break and get repaired all the time.

It's not like we're talking about a one-off antique Ming vase.

It looked like a really nice example to me though. It won't look anywhere near as good as it did...once it has new panels and new paint on it for me.

Everytime I've had a bumper repainted I've had to send it back to them again...because they've made a pigs ear of it. They have got it right(or as good as its going to get) on the second attempt though.

This might blow your mind. You've almost definitely owned a car which has had accident damage repaired, without noticing/realising.

Sticking a car in the field has been something of a rite of passage in our family.

A Diablo though. Top trumps win.

The problem with these events is that lots of people seem to always think that the owner of the valuable car must be some kind of idiot. Or that a car must never be used for fear of it getting damaged. In reality, some of the most valuable cars on the planet have been smashed up so many times that the only original part is the VIN plate and owners know full well the upsides to them of lending a car and the downsides of it doesn’t pan out.

What’s more pertinent is why was the Diablo being run alongside the 220 and the F40? It’s not in the same league. Logically it should be something like the 959 in with those two rather than a drug baron’s prossie transporter. biggrin. It’s like doing a test between teo F1 cars and Ethel’s Ford Focus. biggrin

I know 200mph isn't a big deal these days, but it was back then.
Some people even like doing 200mph on the motorway in estate cars now in the UK! biggrin

I bet 200mph was very impressive back then though for sure. driving

And that goes for brand new ones as well.
