I managed half an episode before giving up.

Humour is not universal.

I can see why some wouldn’t find it funny, but Gossip mongers often has me in tears of laughter.

I find other people laughing funny so when they get a story that really makes them laugh then I am gone!

I'm the same.

Plus it takes me right back to being in teenager in school in the early '90's. It's completely that time's sense of humour.

People's humour is different. It might also be a generational thing as well?

I doubt it's a generational thing, as I only left school in the late Eighties. I could come up with plenty of exactly the sort of story the have on Gossip mongers and me and my mates would find them absolutely hilarious, but they were only funny because they were a shared experience.

If we were to meet up in a pub if they're ever allowed to open again, then "do you remember Phil, who got that limp in the 5th form because he tried to get his dog to lick peanut butter off his cock and it bit his bks" would produce floods of laughter and other similar nostalgic stories. It's precisely the sort of thing that sort of evening is made out of, but "I heard a story about someone I've never met who probably doesn't exist who used to piss down the drain behind the counter in the local chippie in a place I've never been to"? Meh. How's that funny if only one of us has heard the story and none of us know the object of said story?

I enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Gossipmongers, particularly "Spaceworm" and "Mr & Mrs. Smith" which had me crying with laughter but I struggled to listen to the first episode of season three. The laughing amongst themselves seemed to completely take over and it was hard going so I've not listened to any more.

One that I'm really surprised nobody has mentioned is Have a Word with Adam Rowe and Dan Nightingale. I got into it right at the start and it's become quite an addiction. They're a couple of the UK's best touring comedians and some of the stories and insight they give into that world along with their chemistry as good mates having a laugh make for compelling and hilarious listening. Until last week they were doing six shows a week during lockdown too so it's been something to look forward to after yet another day working form home! Definitely worth giving it a go.

Two classic stories. I'll raise you 'Lightbulb' (19m45s into s03e03) which I think is the best one yet wink

Anyone who is into hip-hop might enjoy ‘Jaguar Skills presents Hip-Hop Timebomb‘

He takes a different year each week and creates a great mix of that years biggest tunes and mixes in the original songs they sample too.

Season 2 of cautionary tales is out.

Great podcast about accidents and disasters and historic events and the complex chains of errors that went together to create them.

Very interesting and great storytelling.

Have to agree on Gossipmongers. I thought it was rubbish.
I quite liked it but couldn’t get past the annoying summary voice thing. I found that so irritating I stopped listening in the first few episodes.

Yeah it’s more inbetweeners than Shakespeare. I did find it funny just that voice thing annoyed me.

Let me know what you think. Some years are obviously better than others but it depends on your personal ‘era’.

Have a listen to the Jaguar Skills episode of ‘Romesh Ranganathan’s HipHop Saved My Life’ too, he has put a load of effort into these mixes!

The odd bits I thought were hilarious, but overall I found it more noise than signal.

And I'm finding more good stuff than I have time to listen to, so it got culled!

It's been covered before, I know, but 'We have ways of making you talk' is on great form at the moment. Recommended for WWII geeks.
