Derry Girls. One of the best comedies I have seen in ages. Only the first series is on Netflix at the moment but series 2 is on All 4 anyway.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Not sure if its been mentioned before but stumbled across this last night. Not really sure what to make of it to be honest.
I watched this on Friday and I agree. Not one I would recommend either.
I thought it was absolutely brilliant. A story of friendship, the shallowness of Hollywood and the freaks that live on the fringes. One of QT's best.
I'm with you on this one. I thought it was excellent, but then I loved Death Proof as well.

How to Become a Tyrant

Playbook for tyrants, explaining how they achieve and hold onto power. Oddly compelling and with more than a hint of relevance to the present day when discussing scapegoating and setting up common enemies.

Watched it without looking at who was in it and took most of the first episode to work out why the lead was so familiar!

American Murder: The family next door, I like a bit of real life crime documentarys and this is good one. I did find it particulary upsetting at the end though.

The Rational Life

Set in Shanghai. 34 year old corporate lawyer who is being bullied at work and nagged by her mother to get married. Then she takes on a new assistant in his early 20s. It is a bit drawn out but I found it an interesting insight into issues facing people in China trying to get onto and climb the corporate ladder - as well as many issues facing women, with the pressure to settle down and have children.

I thought it interesting that the lead actress is actually older in real life (40) than the age of her character. Normally they do the opposite. Not that one should judge the program on this basis but she is also stunningly beautiful (for any age nevertheless 40).

If you can give it some leeway for Chinese idiosyncrasies then well worth watching.

8 out of 10
Ffs, I thought this was a film from your description. Now I'm stuck seeing it out, on episode 22 of 35. furious

I thought this QT instalment rather tame and average generally (I loved Django although the violence is extreme, as is the subject matter). I expecting some real gore but the Bruce Lee scuffle with Cliff was as bad as it got. Also forgot that Luke Perry was in this movie, very sad what happened to him. DiCaprio put on his usual high quality performance-i really do think he is the finest actor of his generation.

You must have forgotten the final scene then!

I dont rate this film at all, it's dull.

I completely agree, I thought it was brilliant!

The ability to mix violence and comedy and still hold the story is genius .

The Bruce Lee scene had me rolling

Really enjoying Kim’s Convenience. It’s a sitcom based around a Korean convenience store. Very enjoyable characters easy to watch would recommend.

Ha! Sorry. The Chinese series do seem to go on forever. When I got to where you are I think I started fast forwarding on some of the sub plots. Main plot has satisfying conclusion.

Watched Criminal tonight. Have never even heard of it before, but enjoyed it.

Stellar cast - Gary Oldman, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Gal Gadot and a bit of Ryan Reynolds too. Worth a watch.
Indeed it has, I liked it, not as good as the cast makes you think it might be, but very watchable and Costner is good in it.

The Bruce Lee scene is very controversial and doesn't seem based on anything the real life person actually did.

Perhaps filmmakers should be more respectful when depicting real people, particularly those who are an icon to many.

Not a documentary no, but real life people, with families, deserve to be portrayed as they were in real life.

Tarantino seems to be a fountain of misinformation on this one with all his claims. No evidence for example that Bruce Lee picked on stunt people. Tarantino also claims that the scene was based on a fight between Bruce Lee and Gene Lebell but Jim Cornette says there is no evidence that Gene Lebell ever had a proper fight with Lee as well, because if he had then the wrestling community would have known about it, and they don't, and in fact the two became friendly.

Watched The 8th Door, Korean horror last night - entertaining, I quite liked it. IMDB has mixed reviews but the story, acting and photography were generally pretty good.

I'm a huge Bruce fan, but it's just entertainment. BL comes across as a bit full of himself, but one of his own beliefs was in an individual's humility so I don't think he would have minded some creative storytelling involving him.
