Did they have a glass of bubbles and leave Phillipe out?

He’d been off the Dog and Duck down the road hours earlier:

Tom almost diced with disaster there, but they were always going to put him through if they could.

It would be a massive upset if he (Tom) cocked a dish up.
Well he didn't cock it up but that was close. These were a much stronger group than the other five.

Just caught up, shame for Cecily, but the others were really strong, esp Kyle and Kasae.

Tom a bit wobbly though, hmm..

I think Tom’s wobble was more of selection than execution - the judges could understand the scallop in spring roll - I can see their point. I think he’s still top 3.

I'm surprised Phillipe did not do better in this round as he was one of my favourites.

A bit of over confidence perhaps - surprised he failed to impress twice in a row:

Yep. Very surprised since of picked him for the final but he had deserved to go today. Its all very close now and anyone having a bad day will go ...

Was watching on catch up
Surprised at one of the two who departed this evening, having been so very good so far

Me too, though the judging seemed off with Monica not agreeing with the other two.

I'm quite disappointed that Phillippe went out. And again harking back to previous comments it seems that the format was his downfall.

When he was cooking his own food he was in a class of his own - the critics table and M&M's comments made that fairly clear. Also in the pop-up where he had free reign over his own dish - best of the day and went straight through.

His 'failures' were in the initial invention challenge, the salt and pepper challenge and the plant-based invention challenge. I know it's made-for-tv and other competitors have to deal with these challenges in the same way, but to me the most exciting and interesting chef has been kicked out because invention tests aren't his strong suit - which in a fine dining setting is absolutely redundant.

But I guess now it's back to sous-vide fish and sauces split with dill oil.

That's another irritation - M&M referring to sous-vide fish as 'beautifully cooked.' Of course it is. it's sous-vide. It's almost impossible not to cook it perfectly.

Good post - I think I commented that he brought something different to the table (as did Ms 'I'm half Middle Eastern and I'm going to remind you every 5 minutes') It's a shame he's gone.

Although to be fair, I think that those types of chef who have a second cuisine often do very well on Masterchef (Mauritian lady, Ping, and others whose names escape me) - ETA ah, I think they were the amateur comp, weren't they?

I think the vacuum bagging and sous-viding of stuff should be limited to once for each competitor in a series.

Mind you Tom dealt with one of those in an interesting way ...

They should ban any sauces , "split with dill oil". I've lost count how many times we have seen this so far FFS.

Ginger bloke for the win I reckon.
