The Journeyman

Having watched Dead Mans Shoes on Film4 the other night, I had a look for other Paddy Considine films, and decided on this one.

It's a good plot but some of the detail is a bit unbelievable/unrealistic - worth a watch 6.5/10

Where did you see it? I really enjoyed the first one (there's a bit of a cult following among my colleagues here in Germany!) and have been waiting for The Coming Race for years.
Is on Amazon video (UK). Think you can buy it on disc too.
yes DVD/Blu-ray was in local Tesco last weekend.

Went and saw Rocketman at the cinema yesterday. I thought it was very good. Excellent performances from Taron Egerton and Richard Madden and Jamie Bell was also very good.

Watched The Boat That Rocked on Netflix last week, well behind, didn't see it when it was first out. I'm far too young to remember the actual pirate radio days and I know the story isn't exactly true to the real thing but it's still actually a pretty good film. Probably a 7 out of 10.

Also watched Baby Driver for about the 5th time as it's on Netflix too, Still think it's perfect, absolutely my favourite film from the last few years, if you can ignore the Spacey tarnish. Full marks forever though, 10 out of 10.

I never give Spaceys additional activities any thought.

He’s a great actor, I can separate that, he’s not exactly Gary Glitter!

I'm really surprised by that, as you and I are so frequently in agreement. I thought it had a lot of flaws, not least that it dumbed down a lot of the source material into generic Hollywood cliche, but still managed to capture a lot of the feel and world-building of it. I also felt that they had genuine reverence and respect for the source material, despite the aforementioned dumbing down.
Yeeaahh, well I sort of watched it over my laptop, I don't know the original material but I know famous ones like Akira etc, and I find Ghibli just amazing, whereas this? It felt formulaic, gratuitous and mechanical. I also didn't like poundshop Jack sparrow from Game of Thrones. I gave it sufficient time but ultimately I realised I didn't care about anyone and it was just too thin, and the space on my sky box is at a premium right now! biggrin
The bit I bolded, must be that. Yeah it looks good, but then so does every other film, that's not good enough to keep me watching.

Warrior
it was OK, the lead up to the fights was a bit meh...almost deleted it, but stuck it through and it picked up a tad. THe fights didn't become too boring, obviously the brothers were gonna meet in the final but thanks goodness they didn't do every tedious minute and the way it went felt real. ANd once it was over, yeah, it showed the fights weren't actually important. And cripes, Ton Hardy's traps...wtf....like he had implants or something, just been on youtube to see what training he did. biggrin

O/T, but did Spacey's accusers ever prove his guilt? The Me Too movement gained such traction it's hard to keep up with what were lies v fact.

Went to see 'The Hustle' at the cinema last weekend. OK, yes it's a rubbish remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and, yes, Rebel Wilson is nowhere near as funny as she thinks she is, but it wasn't that bad and had a few funny moments.

Also, any film that has Anne Hathaway dressing up in a variety of slinky outfits is fine by me. I thought I got away with it but, no, Mrs D.R. informs me that I did actually whimper out loud at one point...

How is that "incidental". You deliberately picked the year 1994 out of the whole decade.

We know you remarried with a hot Polish girl Frank, no need to find another excuse to drop that in

Watched a couple more.

Bad times at the el royale

Watched this on the plane, a non linear film that had some good moments and performances.

7 unoccupied rooms out of 10.

Glass

Was looking forward to this as I loved unbreakable and quite enjoyed split. However, it was a special kind of 'M night Shyalaman' ste.

4 twists out of 10 possible turns.

Logan Lucky

Turned it off after 5 minutes, couldn't deal with the accents.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

rofl

Woohoo, what a ride! Modern B movie nonsense with pretty much every monster-flick cliché crammed into two and a quarter hours.
You already know the storyline and this was the same except with added extra monsters, a hollow Earth and an underwater lost city.
It might be a spoiler to say the day was saved by a giant moth, but you're not actually going to see it so I don't feel guilty.
A waste of popcorn.

3 out of 10 destroyed urban areas.

Re watched The American with George Clooney.
Oh my word, what a superb film. I’m not a particular Clooney fan but this was him at his best.
The scenery, setting, storyline, action, suspense everything about is is superb.
A real gem of a film.

Very much agree with this. I stumbled upon it a couple of years ago and thought it was a brilliant film.

I must see if I can find it again !

Yeah this is a great piece. At a time of all out action hitman type movies, this was a really subtle, downbeat and atmospheric movie. All the better for not going to formula. If you enjoy interesting cinematography, you'll love the shots. Lots of yellow and green hues giving it a unique feel. He's also rocking the same watch as me in that movie so by association, I must be cool biggrin
