I’m currently watching Murder Detective (ITV maybe?), where an ex copper goes through the events of some newsworthy cases.

Unfortunately it looking more and more like a puff piece, for example praising the cutting edge police work to apprehend a murderer (lifted a print from a glass and brought the bloke in).

Still, better than nothing!

This is a good thread for highlighting new crime shows - thanks to the posters that do so.

I watched the programme about the murdered grandmother - it seemed strangely familiar, but then these stories do make the news. Good show over two parts.

Just binged watched Shadow of Truth. Really good watch. Kept me intrigued all the way through.

Did he drive a Jag and support Palace? I didn't want to look through the rest of the thread to see if that was confirmed?

Very similar in a lot of ways to the Amanda Knox/Meredith Kercher case and a few others around the same time period - ultimately it came down to an interviewing technique that was designed to extract confessions from suspects, and law enforcement who were under a huge amount of pressure to find the suspect in a viscious crime.

Unfortunately, the technique worked a little too well, with a slew of false confessions that were believed beyond any other exculpating evidence, because "no innocent person confesses".

It showed very clearly in this case the process the false suspect went through - he went from strongly denying his innocence, into self-doubt, and finally into a full confession over the space of about 10 days in custody.

Know went through something similar over the space of a weekend.

Im local to what's going on in Boscombe and would rather not have the bad publicity but my god it would be a cracker of a Two part special for 24HIPC

Well it always was to be fair, then tried to crawl out of it with the funky surf reef etc etc, then seemed to slip back again.

Prompted by the mentions above, I watched this over the last couple of days. It was certainly eye-opening (and very well done). It is appalling that someone should have spent 15 years in prison based almost solely on a confession that was clearly so flawed. Those involved in extracting that confession ought to be facing charges themselves. One of the most illuminating statements was from one of the expert witnesses who said something along the lines of "when I'm working for the state prosecution my testimony has been accepted in all but about 2 cases out of 1000 but when I'm working for the defence my testimony has been accepted in only about 2 cases out of 1000".

You would hope the same thing wouldn't happen here as in Israel, at least not in the same way. But equally some of the pressures are the same, such as for the police to get a result and the judicial system being more lenient if you admit guilt.

It strikes me, for this particular case, that given the girl was murdered in the girls' toilets, there must be a very strong likelihood that the murderer was female since a man going in or out would run a great risk of being noticed

Hopefully this doesn’t ruin the series for anyone (just ignore this post and read no more of it if you have concerns(

And even after all those years and appeals one of the judges was still happy to convict.

Utterly mental (or utterly corrupt). Incredible really.

Seems to me there was a pretty good suspect , but no one seemed bothered to investigate it properly.

Saving face so not to admit they had it wrong ?

The Met BBC1 9pm.

Detectives investigate the murder of a 17 year old boy.

Hopefully right up our street…
