Really enjoyed Ep 7 a proper "Trek" episode.

Looking forward to meeting Harcourt Mudd again!

Agree.

that was a fun episode from start to finish. Proper peril but a fantastic performance from Rainn Wilson made sure things stayed fun as hell, he just chewed up the scenery in every moment.

Does anyone watch "After Trek" that auto plays directly after each episode?

Very mild spoiler, but put it in tags all the same...

They hinted very heavily that perhaps we have not seen the last of Harcourt Mudd just yet. I have a feeling he may well end up a proper reoccurring character now.

Looking on IMDB he's in four episodes, two down two to go!

E8...

Star Trek meets Avitar.

Are the Klingons going to get all 'Jungle Formula' next week?

Another top episode that was so easy and nice to watch it was over far too soon.

Nooo! Damn Americans and their breaks, surely they must all be filmed?

This is pure personal speculation about future events so I won’t spoiler it.

We all noticed Lt Stamets call Cadet Tilly “Captain” after he exited the spore chamber. Anyone care to guess why? At first I just ignored it but then I wondered..

We know the alternate universe of the TOS and TNG with its evil versions of the crew are to make an appearance, thats been confirmed by the writers already.

I suspect that Stamets interaction with the spores has him somehow phasing in and out of this alternate universe whilst ‘jumping’ the Discovery. A universe in which Cadet Tilly is the Captain of the Discovery.

Alternate theory: instead of phasing in and out of the alternate universe he’s phasing in and out of the future in this universe.

I had a very similar thought, I think he is seeing the future

That was my thought too. At least Tilly is no Wesley Crusher...

Good proper Treking in the latest episode and good to see them pushing into stories panning more than one episode as befits the particular story. I was taken with the similarities between the portrayal of the indigenous Pahvans and the "spores" in the Spore Drive perhaps they are linked?

I briefly toyed with the idea that what we have been watching *is* the alternate universe, with all the moral ambiguity and warring.

I did wonder the same I have to say, however TNG never had the 'alertnative' universe like TOS and DS9 did. But i agree I have a feeling more is going on with his character than revealed so far

Interesting opinion - I find her far more irritating than I ever did Wesley. I just find the idea of someone with her personality being in starfleet at all really unlikely.

She's a science nerd, as brilliantly exhibited when she says "this is so cool" when they are messing around with the spore drive. Why wouldn't the Discovery be full of science nerds, it's original task was a science vessel. It's only the event of the Klingon war that has changed the main priority of the ship. Yes you could argue that the science compliment might have been replaced my more military minded personnel but when they aren't fighting, they are still engaged in experimental research in a bid to try to find technology to win the war.

Also remember this is the leftie future, they aren't allowed to discriminate against personality types or even gingers. biggrin

It all works a lot better if you look at it as a parallel alternate (one of many), it makes it much simpler to explain inconsistency and anachronisms (tech, culture, look of things) if you see it as another version of Star Trek instead of part of one continuous whole.

I sometimes wonder if some "Sci Fi fans" have ever watched Trek before?

TOS brought us female senior offices and different nationalities including Russian (shock horror this was at the height of the Cold War and 'Nam) working together. We've had female and black captains. Why is it "leftie" to believe that at some point in the future skin colour, gender, sexual orientation and even "species" will be of as little importance as tow nail clippings?

And I'm sorry "Guvernator"if that wasn't what you meant specifically but I have seen that opinion expressed about Trek and Who recently on these here forums. It's depressing frankly.

The character irritated the st out of me in the first episode when they tried really hard to make her “special needs” obvious. Now she is just a character rather than a token character, I find her quite fun!
