Just noticed that Paul Wallace's Murcielago has disappeared from Tom Hartley's website - it's not listed under 'previously sold' either, wonder if he gave up and took it to another dealer?
Paul uploaded a video a few days ago where he and Carl visited the worst Rolling Road place I've ever witnessed.
In the chat/bks it was mentioned Paul's car was hopefully sold

Ah fair enough. I gave up watching his videos a long time ago. I like the guy but his videos are all over the place.

Not surprised, it's a grey area as you said and there's no need to put a guest on the spot.

Believe Shmee150 was very mildly challenged over his decision to wade into the fray and defend some silly comments made by an employee. People helpfully pointed out times at which he was doing roughly what this other person was. It was all mild, I don't know if it was Shmee150 or Tim that took this personally.

It's ultimately not a huge loss, IMO. Shmee150 clearly felt there were better, more positive places to be and most people here can make their way there, if so interested. He clearly inspired mixed emotions here, at best. As for losing Tim, it's clearly a tragedy.

JWW announced on twitter earlier that he needs a garage for all his cars.

I'm now fully expecting Shmuck sorry I mean Shmark to announce to the world that garages are a Shmee150 thing and how dare James consider copying them and getting one

People knock Tim but he's probably one of the most clued up automotive youtubers if not the most clued up there is.
No-one cares.
Is he though?

I mean, he's not a reviewer. He's good at mentioning specs and colours.

He doesn't pretend to be also.
I listened to the ‘Behind The Glass’ podcast with Tim.

My impression is that he is very clued up about how to work the YouTube algorithm. He is clearly very clued up about his viewership and how to ‘use’ them to make his channels successful. He comes across as a very good analyst of figures - he would make a good accountant or analyst.

It all just sounds very clinical though, when I listen to him he doesn’t exude that vibe of deep-seeded car nerdery that obsessively hoovered up car magazines or content since he was a young boy. My reading of him seems to be of a businessman who likes fast cars rather than an enthusiast who has made a business out of fast cars.

I also thought he sounded exhausted. Without the constant buying/selling and travelling his channel (as with any similar channel) will stall. You wonder how soon it turns to just being ‘a job’ treadmill like most other work. I wonder if he has an exit strategy.

It’s like tax evasion and tax avoidance. One is illegal, the other is technically legal but morally questionable.

He clearly said in the interview that he had spent a lot of resources to get his US work visa and used the Dubai corridor loophole to make use of that visa.

It’s pretty telling how that topic was broached, unprompted, at the beginning of the interview - defensive out the gate.

Given how Sam has highlighted his working within the guidelines and creating compromised (his words!) content closer to home during lockdown 3, I was disappointed he not only didn’t challenge Tim more on this point but fully endorsed it.
That is what I meant about being clued up, he has said he tries very hard to work it out what actually works and what doesn't and how and when they change it etc, he talks about it in this interview,

And yes his parking of the GT is intentional as they talk about it in the video.

In the BTG video/interview he does mention the trip to to the USA, that he was in Dubai when the UK shut the border, he has already paid a lot of money for a USA work visa so as he was able to travel fine to the USA from Dubai he went.

Lots of things.

Continued first run even though the car was on st fuel

There wasn't enough cooling there for even a standard R8, let alone one modified with a supercharger

Changing gears on the coastdown - whilst it's true you cannot actually work out a flywheel figure from a coastdown (unlike as is suggested by some RR oufits) its still worth doing because you can at least see if there's excessive drag indicating a problem. Changing gear just throws it all out.

Since when has 12% been the accepted drive train losses on a 4wd car ?
22 -25% depending on the actual system is the range commonly accepted
Yes the percentage does drop as they power increases, but it's a relatively small drop so surely it's never gonna halve

Finally even if the figure was 12% the operators math was wrong.
You can't take the figure that's already had 12% removed and just add 12% of that reduced figure back.
Say your car had 1000 bhp
1000x0.88=880 ie you've taken 12% off and have 880 remaining
Using the RR guys maths you just take your 880 and times it by 1.12
Now if he was right you should get 1000 using actual fact you get 985.6

That a good enough set of reasons ?

If he was clued up why has got a new M3, he had a M8 comp last year that added nothing to the channel and was never really seen on screen, cannot see the M3 adding much, worlds ugliest car in an awful colour.
Quick YT search shows that his videos on it so far have about 2 million views. Its obviously a car of interest to the YT community. Lots of people think it looks good (I think the colour is superb) and it's probably a superb car for running around. Of far more interest to me than £300k plus track specials.

What cars would you buy if you were in his position?
Anything but a new M3 laugh

Sorry but I have not heard anybody say it is a good looking car yet.

And how many daily cars does he need.

Only people I’ve heard say they like it appear to be sucking up to BMW, deliberately trying to be all “well I can actually see what BMW are trying to achieve here” or both. It might be great to drive but it just looks awful.
Whilst I'm also not a fan of it I saw a dark blue one at the weekend and it didn't look as bad in the metal as it does in pictures. I'm sure the colour helped but the car itself was a fair bit wider than I imagined it to be. Just all combined to make the grill less in your face than I thought it would be.

It's not a loophole, it's the rules. Dubai had no issues with UK citizens entering and working, and the US had no issues with the UK citizens entering and working as long as they'd not been in the Shenzhen zone the previous 14 days.
Like I said, there is tax evasion and tax avoidance.
It's not a great analogy. Tax avoidance encompasses decisions every single one of us will make on a daily basis. Tax avoidance includes paying into a pension, an ISA, eating jaffa cakes instead of chocolate digestives, driving a plug in hybrid instead of petrol. It's not all shell company owned private jets and Cayman island postcodes. They just make good headlines to froth people up as they read their tabloid paper that they haven't paid VAT on.

I got to drive the new M3 at a Goodwood media day the other week. As much as I expected to hate it, I think it is actually one of my favourite ever BMWs. So long as you go into it expecting more of a hotted up 3 series and not a 911 GT3 RS, it was a great car.

Unfortunately still not sure I have cracked BMW PR so that may be my only go in one for a while. Were it not obvious that every YTer will wind up having one in the next two years, I would seriously consider trying to get one but I think it would be far too pricey for me.

They are very good, assuming the rain stays away I'm track testing with one next week in France. If it's anywhere near as impressive as the M5 Comp I tracked a month back, it will be very very good.

Why give it to reviewers when YouTubers will say say positive things just by giving them a long-term loan hey

I couldn't possibly comment.

I can say I did email BMW PR once again hoping meeting them in person might have changed things, especially as I know I actually broadly like the car - so it'd be a fairly safe thing to lend out.

Still waiting for a reply. Might wait a while I expect.

In his defence, the title of the video is "protecting my new M3 at Topaz".

It's not "The Eagles Greatest Hits'

If you're emailing the guy who's name begins with M, don't be offended, give him a call. He is SUPER relaxed and great to work with, he's really one of the good ones, however he isn't great at getting back to emails! I've been 4 or 5 emails deep before I've gotten a reply sometimes, but he is genuinely great when he does.

Unfortunately for Jayemm he doesn't fit into the influencer category who will say everything is good. He fits into the reviewer category who might say the truth (good or bad). BMW PR don't take the risk with such truth tellers.
