Is this out now? It jumped in and out of the cinema quickly last year so missed out, the review on the Mayo/Kermode podcast had me interested.
It's not out for another couple of weeks (23rd January), although I suspect it'll be on Amazon video and Sky Box Office next Monday, I hope..Hachi: A Dog's Tale
8/10 for the feels - I wish I hadn't watched this again - even worst it's a true story. Every time I've seen this, Sister D decides it's a great time to start cutting onions.
Rouge One
6/10 probably against the grain, but it just didn't do it for me (fell asleep) and the CGI was just awful - who thought that was a good idea????
Bottle Shock
7/10 - Sister D made me watch this but was surprisingly enjoyable - film about the fledgling California new world wines competing against the establish French vineyards

Wonder if they had an audition for ugly dogs that would be funny.
Who thinks to just add a little touch like that to a scene. Genius.

Watched Bridge of Spies last night, thought it was ok but they missed out probably the most interesting part the story concerning the two scientists who turned traitor and leaked nuclear secrets to the USSR because they didn't think it was right for America to have a monopoly on nuclear weapons. Quite an interesting moral dilemma given they built the bomb in the first place; probably wouldn't have fitted with the pro-America/constitutional theme.
Also no idea why they felt it necessary to show missiles actually hitting the U2, noob pilots flying the mission and being instructed to kill themselves; the true story is interesting enough why mess with it? I liked the high altitude footage though.
Maybe that's why I enjoyed it as I wasn't too familiar with the real events. Hollywood always does this when the real truth is actually more interesting. Point in case is the Iceman movie. The best and most gripping book I've ever read by Philip Carlo. A chilling and scary read given its factual and Hollywood based it on another book about the same guy. Cue ridiculous car chase the wrong way down a one way system and leaving out the most chilling part of the story all together (what he did in the cave if anyone's familiar with it).
I know they have to add a little artistic license to stories based on true events but it's always puzzled me why they leave out interesting events or add other bits that didn't happen and don't need to be there.
La La Land. A homage/revival/love letter to the musical, celebrating Los Angeles, Jazz and 'dream of the creative industry'. Some very enjoyable scenes, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are both very impressive. Not really classic PH fodder, but enjoyable if you let yourself go along with it.
Its golden globes are in the "comedy or musical" category and against the competition i've seen (example - Deadpool) - its worth its awards.
7/10.

With the announcement that Parkour is now an officially recognised sport in the U.K. I'm revisiting the District 13 films. Not because Cyril Rafaelli is fit as fk of course, that was last month's reason.
So the storylines aren't intriguing but the action, stunts, free running/Parkour are fantastic and I like the soundtracks.
Still love Damien's fight scene in Ultimatum with the Van Gogh painting. Luc Besson (director of bothDistrict 13:Banlieue and D-13 Ultimatum) is genius.
