I watched "47 Ronin" last night - had expected a more serious Samurai film, not fantasy hokum like that. No-one does expressionless and disinterested like Keanu Reeves.
4/10
Yeah, it was supposed to be massive but bombed hard and the studio didn't know what to do to boost bums on seats, it appeared on DVD quite quickly#4/10

Shame there isn't a mediocre midweek film thread but here goes, my Sky+ is a little lighter now.
World War Z - Brad Pitt, zombie apocalypse. Tired genre and this brings nothing new. 5/10
This is the end - Seth Rogen and crew as themselves in a stoner apocalypse film. Better than WWZ but only just. 5.5/10
Fright Night - The eighties version, cheesy horror comedy when a vampire moves in next door. 5/10
Pain and Gain - Dumb bodybuilders kidnap a client to get his money. True retarded story. Expected more. 6/10
6/10 from me also for Pain and Gain:World War Z - Brad Pitt, zombie apocalypse. Tired genre and this brings nothing new. 5/10

There were some laugh out loud moments which surprised me due to the nature of the film (based on a true story).
Worth a watch (I picked up the dvd from Morrisons for £7).

I enjoyed it - but fk was it depressing4/10
I watched Pompeii the other day. Its a solid 5/10 because it makes an interesting Saturday night movie that i will probably never watch again. BUT Its lacks character development, the gladiatorial fighting scenes look like they were choreographed for a school play, the location of Pompeii is inaccurate, the eruption of Vesuvius was inaccurate but most distrubing of all Keifer Sutherlands accent making him sound like Simon Gruber from Die Hard With a Vengence.
Oh and there is no way even The Rock could snap a horses neck, let alone the Jon Snow character
Fun for a saturday night but forgettable five minutes after it has ended

Such a shame, I was looking forward to watching this for months!I watched Pompeii the other day. Given the director, I really should have known better - I was stupid enough to watch his version of the three Musketeers, in which his wife seemed to act out her RE Alice roll....
Disappointed about 47 Ronin since seeing the trailer, the actual story, true or not, sounded quite interesting but to introduce so much fantasy nonsense seemed like a bit of a betrayal to the title. Still sat on my HD waiting to be watched.
Saw Her quite recently, which was pretty disappointing. Took me two separate sittings to get through, although probably not helped by reading the entire plot on Wikipedia beforehand.
Decided to knock out the 1987 Robocop after suffering through the reboot. Quality film.

And the chariot and horse and rider dodging the fallout as they go hurtling through the streets of Pompeii was on a par with the limo scenes from the movie 2012 for utter ridiculousness.
Generation Iron-narrated by Mickey Rourke
From the producer of the original classic Pumping Iron', comes "Generation Iron" the long awaited true story of dedication, rivalry, victory, defeat, redemption and triumph... The film examines the professional sport of bodybuilding today and gives us access to the lives of current bodybuilding stars Phil Heath, Kai Greene, Branch Warren, Dennis Wolf, Victor Martinez, Hidetada Yamagishi as well as ambitious newcomer Ben Pakulski and European sensation Roelly Winklaar on their journey to be crowned Mr. Olympia. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2205904/?ref_=nv_sr_1
47 Ronin was disappointing. Try Afro samurai with Samuel l Jackson. It's a 5 part mini series but the DVD plays it as a film .
In a strange world of swords, guns and kimonos, cell phones and cybernetic body parts - a black samurai, Afro Samurai, seeks revenge from a man named Justice who killed his father and also happens to be the #1 fighter in the world. After Afro earns the rank of #2 fighter needed to challenge the #1, he starts his lonely walk to revenge. He faces bounty hunters, bar thugs and fanatical monks - all of whom seem to have clues to the whereabouts of Justice and all of whom covet the position of #2 for themselves. Also along the way we are introduced to Afro's chatty companion - the light hearted Ninja Ninja. Written by Nick Miles. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0465316/?ref_=nv_sr_1

The Railway Man 9/10.
Outstanding performances by all, especially Colin Firth. I could not stop crying during the final scenes. Based on a true story and compelling viewing.
During World War II, Eric Lomax is a British officer who is captured by the Japanese and sent to a POW camp, where he is forced to work on the Thai-Burma Railway north of the Peninsula of Malaysia. During his time in the camp, Lomax is tortured by the Kempetai primarily for building a radio.
Years later and still suffering the psychological trauma of his wartime experiences, with the help of his wife Patti (Kidman) and best friend Finlay (Skarsgård), Lomax (Firth) decides to find and confront one of his captors. He returns to the scene of his torture after he has tracked down Japanese officer Takashi Nagase (Sanada) "in an attempt let go of a lifetime of bitterness and hate"

Last week it was
Blue Ruin - I give it 5 /10 cos it was just nasty, gory and a story made up from a stupid family misunderstanding. I felt cheated after seeing it because I was not entertained. There are better films than this on the circuit.
This week it was
Before the Winter Chill 9/10
A french take ( with subtitles ) on Fatal Attraction but as you expect - the twist is 'Oh Crikey that could easily have be me'. And the French know all about having a bit on the side don't they ?
Kristen Scott Thomas can do no wrong but teamed up with Daniel Auteuil, its a winner.
Stay Cool....
The Two Faces of January next week unless I hear different.
Downloaded Non-Stop yesterday and gave it a watch. Was probably one of the worst films I've ever seen. Poor acting, poor editing, awful music and sound effects. I thought they were being clever and made the watcher try and spot Liam Neeson as I was getting a bit confused as to why he hadn't appeared 30 mins before the film finished. It then clicked that this wasn't the right film. It turns out that I downloaded a TV film with the same name. Oh well.
