Just downloaded the latest episode. Mmm been so long Ive forgotten what is going on. Billions is programme where you need to concentrate on what is being said, happening. You can soon loose your place and are clueless on what is going on as at times I have no idea where they are saying despite.

Looks like Chuck has lost about 3 stone since the last episode.
He looked very ill I thought.Chuck is the only character that manages to swear properly!!
All the rest sound like they don’t really do it-
“I will de fking stroy him” or similar just doesn’t sound right at all
Totally agree it's a pale shadow of its former glorious self. I will however be watching as a st version of Billions is still more entertaining than 99% of what's on telly.
It's just the way of things though isn't it? New programme has refreshing new idea, things are kept hidden for a while while the plot develops. Things start to get revealed and then boom they get a second series. They've got enough in reserve to sustain interest but then comes the problem third series where they don't really know where to take it. Things just get more and more strained and viewers leak away until the series gets cancelled. Soooo many great programmes have gone the same way. Just the way it is,

I can’t remember where I’m up to, watched the last episode that was on before the season ended months ago again and couldn’t remember any of it. It’s a bit st these days.
Chuck looks ill and what’s the point of this artist chap? I’m still watching it but just cos there’s not much else to watch.

That's where the writers of Breaking Bad got it spot on; they knew the story they wanted to tell and turned down $75m to continue it on - presumably the networks just assume that if you have a successful show, you just keep it going to make more money when what actually happens is you run it into the ground and flog it until the fans no longer care to watch. It's just the way of things though isn't it? It's often because they only commission one series and see how it goes. If a series was commissioned as a 6 parter from the offset then it would be a far deeper experience. It's just the way of things though isn't it? The other thing is Series 1 often has loads of sex scenes and violence and it gets less and less each series

Breaking bad is an excellent example of the writer knowing the start/end points and sticking to landing. BSG is an excellent example of the start/end points being known and then crash landing. Sopranos is an great example of adjusting from series to series until the showrunner knew when to call it a day (accepting that before Gandolfini died when a TV film was in the works), And Deadwood is a prime example of something magical being cut in it's waxing. It all depends on the showrunner/writers and how good they are and how much they can evade the suits.
I don’t think Breaking Bad was that planned out initially. In the season one DVD commentary, they said that Jessie Pinkman wasn’t supposed to be a main character at all and the plan was to bump him off early on. However Aaron Paul did such a good job that they decided to make him a main character as well.

That's true, but the overarching story was always WW's defection to the dark side and where it ultimately lead him.The part about the integration of JP shows how they saw a good thing happening and made the original concept even better. That's skill from the showrunners and all the better for it.

The major Story Arc was always planned out (as that's what Vince sold to AMC) but things always change due to money/unexpected chemistry between actors.I read previously that Breaking Bad was not supposed to be set in Albuquerque, Vince originally planned it to be in LA but budget wasn't big enough and it was cheaper to be in New Mexico. How different it would have been if in LA!!
