The unbearable weight if massive talent
Really really fun entertaining film. So rare to ever have an American take the mikey out of themselves.

Cage was the best parody of Cage I've ever seen. I think this is probably the 2020's version of blazing saddles.

It got a round of applause at the end if that's any indication.

10/10 from me.

+1. Watched it tonight and it was loads of fun. Pedro Pascal was up for it too, I've only ever really seen/heard him in The Mandalorian smile .
What platform is this on?

Excellent British film. What we do best.

15-year-old girl who takes care of her younger siblings as the mother has problems. She’s given the task of doing a stand-up routine for the school talent show.

Fantastic acting by a 16-year-old Liv Hill.

One of the few films that didn’t disappoint. 9/10
Well acted but a terrible ending.

Snake Eyes - I didn't have great expectations coming into this (let's be honest GI Joe is never going to be a challenging watch!) but it didn't even meet those lowly expectations. Dire

The Iron Mask - Jackie Chan, Arnie, Jason Flemyng what could go wrong? Well this was an even bigger turkey than the GI Joe/Snake Eyes - truly execrable in just about every possible way. It may not be the worst film in recent memory but at this point it certainly feels it - I resent having paid £1.99 to watch this turd of a movie.

We thought that the ending was apt and fitted in with the storyline.

Each to one’s, etc.

One of those movies I have never seen for some reason. I have a "Movies to Watch" MacOS reminder list, I shall add this to it - thanks.

I've somehow missed seeing it too. Was going to say "I can't imagine why" then I looked at it's UK release date and it was the year my second son was born. Cinema just wasn't "a thing" for us for quite a while after that. And when it was "a thing" again for us it was more often to see kids' movies as a whole family. So I think that we'd have both been bypassed by the release promotion of it, especially as my boy had some (thankfully minor, and long since sorted) health issues that first year or so.

It seems somehow wrong when I look at the number of critically acclaimed, highly regarded, or "cult status" movies that are still on my list of films yet to see. I did, however, put one of my ommisions right last night/early this morning...

American Gangster 2007

My wife went up to bed early, and I flicked through the channels and found Roger Moore's 1983 Bond outing Octopussy. It's not exactly critically acclaimed, award winning cinema, but it seemed like a better option than the BBC's news/politics output, or Naked Attraction. So I watched that through, and thought I'd go to bed too as I'd finished my crossword during Bond. That was when my plan went wrong. Because next up was American Gangster. I had no intention of watching it, but as I tidied up in the living room it swiftly became clear that this was a movie that was a "cut above" the average. Not sure what time it started, but it was a quarter to three when I hauled my stunned carcass upstairs. Brilliantly directed by Ridley Scott, and with the two leads, Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe, acting out of their skins, it was just brilliant. At times I was tempted to hit 'record' and finish it another time, but every time the story turned another corner it was impossible to pull myself away from the action. It's not a short film, either. At a little over two and a half hours long it could have gone on too far, but every scene told a story and I couldn't see any excess that could have been cut. The locations, costumes, cars, etc all sat beautifully on screen. The supporting cast, too, were on fire. There were one or two "Central Casting bent cop" types but the bulk of the on screen talent definitely fitted with the period setting. Ruby Dee especially stole her scenes as Mamma Lucas, playing Denzel Washington's mom. The soundtrack, too was the work of a genius. It made all the right noises at all the right times, without straying into 'Blaxploitation' stereotype/parody territory. It was an additional character, almost. It was 'gritty' though, and very overtly violent at times. I certainly don't think my wife would have enjoyed it anywhere near as much as I did. The only real negative for me came this morning, after watching those pieces in the credits that detailed the "facts" of the real life case the film was based on. It turns out that, although the characters portrayed were real, as was the drug empire, and the smuggling method, none of the real-life protagonists thought the film to be an accurate portrayal of real events. I mean that doesn't exactly "ruin the movie" but those fibs told in the closing credits roll probably weren't necessary really. The real story sounds like it was dramatic enough, but hey-ho. Ignore the inaccuracies in the on-screen events when compared with actual events and just accept it as a fictional gangster story and it is probably the best one of the genre I've ever seen. And when I mused on how this film managed to stay off my radar? It's release date put it right at the time I was serving in Iraq, which was an incredibly busy tour for me, and which was followed immediately by a new posting and a new career direction, so having the time and inclination to watch movies just wasn't "a thing" for me then. Me staying up until nearly 3 am didn't go down well with my wife, but I can't say I'm regretting watching it at all. If you haven't seen it yet? Get it watched!

Not sure on where its from, maybe Apple, but Swansong was very good, a little macabre, my kind of film lol, but great concept, pretty and well put together, acting a little rough around the edges and the relationship between the married couple did not come across well but a great little film.

If that is the case, try Sam Rockwell in

Mr Right

I believe this is a very underrated film for a black comedy.

The Northman

Glad I saw this at the cinema last night as it's a film that really benefits from the big screen experience..

I can see how it wouldn't be to everyone's taste, and certainly there was a small group in front of us at the cinema that I feel might have just seen the poster and assumed it was a 'generic' Viking film, as they looked a bit perplexed in parts..

But I'm a big fan of Eggers films The Witch and The Lighthouse, so this didn't disappoint in the slightest. Absolutely superb.

The Batman

Long, dark, mumbly. Not impressed, a bit of a slog.

I’m half way through Moonfall

Christ the amount of stupid “science” is doing my head in. What a load of bks. The whole space shuttle launch sequence nearly had me throwing the tv out of the window.
