Hmmmmm, something thats alienating the very large original core audience whilst seemingly being created solely for an audience that doesn't exist in numbers anywhere large enough to support it - I wonder how it all went wrong? Not very long actually.

The really, truly sad thing is that "message" that RTD is trying to push is actually not a bad thing (be nice to everyone, irrespective of their specific differences) yet that message is being delivered the most aggressive way possible - "like us and everything we do even if its crap or you're a bad person and we'll tell everyone that you're the problem, bigot" - which is absolutely never, ever the way to get genuine change in a large group of people.
It's really sad as I loved RTD's amazing documentary about the disaster of AIDS in the 80's as it ran rampant through the gay scene, killing and changing lives whilst the victims felt the need to hide due to shame and the slow change in society through the 90's as we (mostly) realised how wrong it was. That was a fantastic way to gently change peoples opinions, through empathy and patience and the belief that "people will get it eventually" whereas all his newer stuff seems to be "I don't have time left for the slow & gentle approach any more - like this or or else".
The biggest shame is that, if the quality of the writing and acting was at least really high, then you really could beat people around the head with the message (see Green Book or Hidden Figures etc) but in his rush the quality of everything has been lost, making his message appear bullying rather than coaxing, and thats why its falling flat.
As for the new actor playing the Doctor, the whole character, everything has been reduced to a pastiche, to a singular idea of "I'M GAY AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT BIGOTS! HERE'S SOME OFFENSIVE GAY SLANG JUST SO KNOW I'M GAY!!!!!!!" with none of the charm, or multi-faceted nature other doctors had. I can only assume that this actor was picked for a very specific, singular reason, and acting ability very likely wasn't it.
Gay slang - I had to look this up as I wasn't sure what "snow manned" meant when he told the copper he'd just been snow manned and wanted to go home - FFS, is this the level we've dropped to from "The Doctor" is it?
- *EDITED to correct the showrunners name, I wrote Moffat when I meant RTD!***

"I find it fascinating that it matters so much to these people" says the man who has chosen to make his entire characters personality about thier sexual preference and references it unceasingly. I have no idea what sexuality the 3rd, 5th or even 1st Doctor was, it just was never important to the story. Not very long actually.

I must have missed the bit about why the "new" Doctor had no trousers. Will he always have no trousers?
When they split they had to share the clothes so Tennant got the trousers and new doc got the pants.70s TV comedy shows had people running around with no trousers on.
People have weird dreams about having no trousers on. Writer tests water about his recurrent dream hoping for an answer in the deluge of comments lol.

And not a spoiler in sight...
The episodes are already out- the streaming release is the new norm.I don't care - I'm not watching it, but this thread appeared in My Stuff.
No details (even in spoiler tags) until after the terrestrial show ends

Worth pointing out that the person running the current Doctor Who is Russell T Davies, not Moffat. Though Moff is writing the next episode. The really, truly sad thing is that "message" that Moffat is trying to push is actually not a bad thing (be nice to everyone, irrespective of their specific differences) yet that message is being delivered the most aggressive way possible - "like us and everything we do even if its crap or you're a bad person and we'll tell everyone that you're the problem, bigot" - which is absolutely never, ever the way to get genuine change in a large group of people.

The overriding opinion I’m seeing on various Doctor Who groups is that Gatwa is very good, it’s the episodes that are ste.Not very long actually.

If people do stop watching it’s not going to be because they cast Gatwa, it’s going to because the episodes are poor.
Personally I think Gatwa is one of the few redeeming qualities of these two episodes. Another is Jinkx Monsoon who was great. So for me it’s not “diversity” that’s the problem. It’s storylines. And that’s on RTD.
They could do some historic stories in the Victorian era. Maybe one that involved child labour chimney sweeps
This would be great because they could finish the episode by doing a couple of songs in one of those victorian music halls.
A bit like that old programme "the Good Old Days"
The new Doctor would have to keep breaking the fourth wall to let us know what was happening.

I agree. Jodie would have been fine if only she'd had different scripts. And Capaldi would have been fantastic.
Unfortunately, neither of them did.
Exactly. There's nothing wrong with the actors but, IMHO, the writers started to run out fof ideas during Capaldi's tenure.Unfortunately, neither of them did.
The first female Doctor could have given the show several new avenues to go down and a reboot but instead we got virture signaling and politcal messaging and the result was dire.
Hopefully, it's not too late to rescue the current series. All they need a decent plot & script and to remember what the programme is meant to be: A science fiction show - an escape from reality for 50mins or so on a Saturday evening, not a method of promoting an agenda or politcal messaging.
I am annoyed about the decline (IMHO) of the Dr franchise.
When I consider the context;
- a wandering Demi god like character who is all but immortal
- is super intelligent but benevolent
- likes helping people/aliens/things that need help
- has a machine that can go anywhere in space and time
- is the last of his kind (until some implausible script brings back another one at some point)
- can be lonely so searches out friendship
And yet they seem to have run out of ideas and write drivel.
Surely in the world of writers and storytelling there are people with good ideas?

A bunch of grown men getting their panties in a twist because of a fictional character. Good grief have a word with yourselves.
Unfortunately that boat sailed around the time it stopped being a children's show. Grown men being over invested in the proclivities of the main character are exactly what had led to the present situation. Apparently Dr Who isn't for straight white men anyway, according to Metro
