Once Upon A Time In Hollywood....

Obviously I was looking forward to seeing this one...as a big Quentin fan (especially the early films) but I’m struggling to agree with all the mega reviews on the movie.

It’s a massive Tarantino fest, jumping from one cult reference to another, it almost seems that this is the only point of the movie. That said Pitt and DeCaprio give masterful performances, there are some magical scenes and some very funny moments. There is however, not a lot in the way of a plot although that is what we’ve come to expect from Quentin.

If you are planning on seeing it and don’t know about the Manson family and the murders of Sharon Tate I’d suggest you get on Wikki before your cinema trip as I did....it helped even if this was Tarrantinos alternate view of the story!

8/10

Exactly my thoughts but since it's been a few weeks since seeing the film I'm actually looking forward to seeing it again.

Iin my experience second time viewing of a Tarantino film, (well, certainly Pulp Fiction) can be more enjoyable.

Also worth watching a few of the Sharon Tate /Manson videos on YouTube, very enlightening

I watched A Most Violent Year a few weeks ago. A most excellent film, one of the best of the tweenies.
A question. Whom do we think was behind the masked attacker of the salesman, and the armed intruder on the leads property?

Watched a couple yesterday whilst mildly hungover.

The Kindergarten Teacher. Not terrible, but felt a bit silly. 5.5/10.

mid90s. Was shot really nicely and the dialogue and pace of the film was good, but I’m not sure if it was a bit contrived and self-indulgent. Maybe a bit too cool? Not really a fan of Jonah Hill to be honest. Has been compared to Kids but isn’t anywhere near as good. Think I liked it though. 7.1/10. The Pharcyde playing for the closing credits was good though.

Edit: just seen that Harmony Korine was actually in the film, didn’t spot that. As was Chad Muska apparently.

Oblivion

Started watching late last night and was sort of enjoying it in a slow sort of way. Got about 2/3rds the way through and it started getting silly, (In my opinion).

Life is too short so switched it off!

I tried to watch bad times at the el royale last night. The stream dropped about 45 minutes in and I can't say I did anything to rectify it. Turned it off and watched a few YouTube videos instead. Very weird movie but just not gripping or intriguing enough to sit through it.

John Wick 3 - predicable. Just watch it after a few (lot of) beers.

Godzilla - King of somethings - As cliched and dire as you could imagine. Just don't. Unless you're 10 years old

Pet Semetary - Quite good horror.

I sat through Holmes and Watson. I doubt I’ve seen a worse film, it’s shockingly bad.

The Witch. Definition of a marmite film, but I love the atmosphere and constant feeling of dread. Something else I really liked is that it would have been so easy just to make the parents fire and brimstone fanatics, but they end up far more layered than that. I'm also a fan of the theory that it's all just starvation-induced hysteria.
