Films I watched this week
Discussion
Passengers. SciFi Space Travel Drama.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1355644/
I enjoyed this.
The visuals, sets and depiction of the vessel were very good,
quite what I would imagine an interstellar craft to look like.
The story was good as were the actors.
The ending was a little ambiguous but it worked for me.
8/10

Notorious - 5/10
Chronicles the life on Notorious BIG.
OK but nowhere near as compelling as "Straight outta Compton"
Plus the fact it's not a true story because BIG was brought up by wealthy parents & didn't live the lifestyle he rapped about which for me made the film more of a farce but I gave 4/10 as a time killer it's okay.Chronicles the life on Notorious BIG.

John Wick 2. Everything you would expect from the sequel to John Wick, really. Keanu is back and he's still failing to retire. He is great to watch and it's all very stylish. Just a bit unnecessary (meaning the film itself, not the violence). 7/10
Saw this last night - great fun 8/10 I really really want a Chevelle SS now!
Sully I didn't really fancy this and hadn't heard much about it other than it was a movie about the Hudson landing. The other half wanted to watch it so we gave it a go. I thought it might be an hour and a half of boredom leading up to a 10 minute CGI fest of a plane landing in the river. I was wrong. I didn't realise Clint Eastwood directed it until the credits but it did have his signature American hero and emotional content style. Hanks is Hanks, you rarely get a poor performance but I was impressed with Aaron Eckhart. I've seen him in some dross but he didn't overplay his character. There's some good performances and they did well not to go too Hollywood on it. Not perfect but I'd give it a strong 7.5 / 10
The Fear of 13 - 8/10, currently on Netflix, tells the story of a small time criminal that gets wrongfully accused of murder and rape, spending 20 years on death row before giving up on appeals, asking for his right to die.
Its basically the chap sat there telling the last twenty years of his life on death row, harrowing, gripping and an extremely likeable chap.

The Great Wall
It was like someone watched the Game of thrones episode "The Watchers on the Wall" and thought they would try and make a film out of it.
Its visually very attractive and has some thrilling action sequences, however a pointless subplot and weak secondary characters means that even at 100 minutes or so it does drag a bit.
Well worth a watch if you like that sort of thing though 6.5/10

Controversial, I've seen it 2345165 times and don't like the redux version.
Showing my ignorance here, but what is the difference between the redux and normal version? Is it extra footage or significantly different?I'm pretty sure I owned the redux version on DVD at one point but can't seem to find it right now, and I don't think I have ever watched it. I have seen the original several times though.
Edit: Never mind - I've started researching it myself. I should have done that in the first place. Sorry about that.

The Girl on the train
All very depressing. I really don't see what all the fuss with the book was about if it was anything like the film.
4/10
Films are rarely as good as the books. All very depressing. I really don't see what all the fuss with the book was about if it was anything like the film.

Haven't seen the film yet, but know it was set in the USA whereas the book is set in UK.

No Escape 2015
Not a big fan of Owen Wilson but a good film I thought.

One of the most tense films I've seen.
Warcraft
This seemed to be trailed before every single film I saw at the cinema for about a year so, with no other preconceptions and having seen no reviews, I thought I'd give it a go - expecting a good old monsters, magic and maidens romp.
Good lord, where to begin? Flat, identical characters, utterly predictable story and jarring CGI everywhere. Despite the title of War Craft the battle scenes were unexciting (Orcs have big hammers, men have swords and "boom sticks" and, er, that's it) with hardly a drop of blood. The cast was full of talentless unknowns apart from a brief uncredited appearance by Glenn Close, then I was stunned to find it was directed by Duncan Jones. How the mighty have fallen after the joy of "Moon".
And yet after doing a bit of poking around there's talk of a sequel/franchise. fk knows who went to see this, apart from a lot of entertainment-starved Chinese and some fat, neck-bearded gamers.
Woeful, uninspiring, bored. 1/10
