I'm sure the Karmann Ghia bloke has been on before, living with his mum and having vehicles in the house definitely rings a bell

Yes! He made his mistake worse by getting iffey about being picked up!
I loved " I know everything about cars" Derek saying you could make money on the Lancia! I guess he doesn't watch Harry's Garage either!

Yep.

He bought the Motorhead trike from Matthewsons in an earlier series.

I knew as soon I heard Motorhead trike that it was him! I don't think the narrator chap said that he got it from them or that he'd been on the show before, even though he did. The "Vauxhall" Karmann Ghia did look nice! I think he got it for a decent price.

I'm sure Derek's made money on the Lancia even if the new owner doesn't lol!!!

I think if you removed those horrible massive reflectors which would look more suited to the back of a 1970's Raleigh Chopper from the rear wings (part of the U.S spec I assume) & that would look spot on!

Last weeks live auction he was selling a pair of brass wheel centres, the winning bid was £10.
Sold for £10,000 was his shout on the hammer - was picked up by one of the staff, hadn't realised he'd said it.

Still better than Derek last week though.

I winced when I saw the ratchet on the Lancia wing too, but I think that's the least of its' problems!

I thought the 3.0S Capri made strong money although it was possibly a bit better than it looked, but when I had my 2.8injections in the 80s those alloys were always "pepperpots".

Loved how Dave didn't seem too happy getting corrected about the Vauxhall Karmann Ghia. laugh

Now and again I watch some of the older episodes when there is nothing else on, and realise how much prices have increased in the last few years.

Great series though and Derek is a great bloke. Met him when I was in the area last year.

I think it's a family trait, as Derek doesn't react too well to any form of criticism

I thought it was strange that he said something like "it'd probably do better if it was a Vauxhall" after he'd been corrected, it's not as if classic Vauxhalls have a price premium compared to old VWs.

If I remember correctly from Harry’s Garage, they said that the Zagatos were a lash-up when they left the factory.

Harry's was equally as bad if not worse!

Re-watched this episode earlier, I do wonder how much they really know at times or are the best place to auction a rare car, he said the Lancia all done would be a £15k car all day long.

When have they every been that cheap, very few made and I doubt many survive now.

I think they're an acquired taste, and seem to be valued less than equivalent Fulvia HFs. Looking at past auction results, there seems to be no shortage of rough examples in the 10-20k range, with good examples fetching around 30-40k, and as we've seen they are expensive to restore.

Harry's was only bad because of having to undo the utter cowboy bodge past repairs, and if it had been repaired correctly it wouldn't have been that bad.
What was interesting though in Harry's video's was the guys saying that the metal Zagato used was so thin, its best not to blast them, and of course they also said acid dipping was a no-no.
The one on Bangers will likely be just as expensive, if not more expensive to repair because they dipped it, and as said on Harry's video, there are no panels available for the Zagato, it has to be all hand fabbed.
