I have to say this would COULD be a fantastic and fascinating programme.....
....with some different presenters.
FTFY.....with some different presenters.
Having spent some time on a converted spice barge in Kerala back in February,
I can say with some confidence that this was an uninformative and st programme .
A new series starts on Sunday :

It's the Norfolk Broads.

In the trailer Timothy once again shows his extraordinary boat-handling skills . How the hell he's let loose on the world's waterways is beyond me.http://www.channel4.com/programmes/great-canal-jou...

Lovely gentle viewing, mind you.

They really shouldn't let Tim loose on such a lovely craft.
Maybe it's just me but seems as if he is only steering it down the river, no mooring or close quarter manoeuvring, if that were my boat I wouldn't let him loose in it. Seeing how he's performed on previous boats with wheel steering, ie zig zagging along, at one point we rather unkindly wondered if he was just up there on the flying bridge twirling a disconnected wheel while the owner was at the inside helm.

Yep, suspect you might be right, even down to showing Tim fiddling with the already tied mooring lines. as he disembarks. I don't like to harp on about it, but are these boat owners aware of what they're letting themselves in for? He really should admit it, and hand in his credentials.
What is the rule for waterways on the continent? AFAIK it's the same as the UK, keeping to the right, although I don't know why it should be different to the road network for us. That large barge cruiser was in the wrong IMHO unless someone knows different. Having said which, Tim did nothing to help - didn't occur to him to shove it in reverse pronto for an emergency stop.
How long can this show continue? Maybe with a stand-in skipper?
