I think Disney are actually quite worried about how well this movie will do. Here in the US they're giving away free tickets with Cereal boxes, which I've never noticed any other film doing.
I am going to see Solo, but not on opening weekend.

I don't know if it is the same in the US, but over here 'did that come free in a cereal packet' is a euphemism for worthlessness.

I'm curious to know how that counts in the audience figures.

I wonder if those tickets will be counted towards the calculation of box office takings scratchchin

It might be just me, after watching the trailer. This new Han Solo just don't seem to have the same charm as Harrison Ford Solo. Alden Ehrenreich need to improve his acting. Donald Glover on the other hand made a very good Lando

If Glover pulls off a good Lando in this (i dont doubt he will) then a lando backstory film could be great.

I'm from the UK so get the worthless cereal packet stuff. laugh I think it's the same here though, that things given out free with cereal is pretty worthless, saying that though they're giving out tickets to see Infinity War with other things (not cereal related!) smile

As for the box office, I think they exchange the voucher for a ticket at the cinema, so I expect it to go towards audience figures and takings.

Might be a good way to artificially boost box office figures - especially if they think the movie could bomb otherwise wink

Are you a Disney writer rofl Coming up with crazy ideas to make some money.

Lando wouldn't work IMHO as he's not a character people instantly remember.

Both TFA and TLJ were beyond poor. Rogue One was OK but I’ve no desire to watch it again. The air is hissing out of the Star Wars franchise.

Yep, TFA and TLJ were terrible for many reasons (the story, or lack of in TLJ just one of many problems). But personally I think Rogue One was excellent, probably the 3rd best of the entire franchise.

Maybe Solo will be good in a Rogue One kind of way......or it could be completely arse!! biglaugh

Lando is a great character and could have an interesting past.

Plus Glover/Gambino is at the the top of their game right now. He’s huge.

comparing Rogue One to TFA and TLJ made Rogue One master piece

with Disney kill off the canon, my hope of seeing a trilogy or even just a single spin off in old republic era seem to diminish to oblivion

Tfa was OK least it made sense even if we had deathstar 27 but tlj was an absolute mess.

R1 was a very solid film.

Probably no accident that so far at least he's been the main promoter of the film. I don't think it would far off to suggest in the US at least that he really could be key to the financial success of the movie.

Of course - had picked, specially invited reviewers to the first screening are bound to be on the positive side.

I might give it a punt if post general release reviews are decent. If the reviews are middling, i'll might pick it up on blu-ray when it comes up in a sale - if reviews are crap, I probably won't bother at all - (TLJ is the first starwars movie I don't own a physical copy of).

A load of professional reviewers and the only ones that didn't chuck in qualified criticism were the total non-entities.

If the positive hand picked reviews aren't exactly glowing it must be a bit of a turd.

"And he predicts there'll be a Solo franchise. "It's not really hiding the fact it's setting up more Han Solo movies," he adds."
