Just get a Kodi and spend your whole life frustrated at how unreliable it is.
This 1000%, so many times we've been set to watch a film, found it and then it won't work or buffers or simply stops madmad
It's the reason I now have the full Sky package. It. Just. Works.

Kodi is only as good as the apps you install and how much you understand how to use it. A decent box and connection is a must.

As a point of reference when bargaining with them, we left 2 months ago and today received a letter offering us everything (HD, Sport, Cinema, Kids, Entertainment etc) for £38 per month on a 12 month contract.

They flat out refused to get anywhere near that when we actually left (we were paying £32 for all that).

Too late for us as we've taken advantage of the excellent Now TV Black Friday offers and have Netflix/Prime too.

So having halved my subscription price some 18 months ago; it was that time again!

Essentially wanted the same but with new SkyQ box.

It took too long really, but got it all again with new 1tb Qbox and new modem for £10 less. Essentially, they were trying really hard to give me the upgrade but as long as I paid even a little bit more. Got them down to £10 more and told them it was daft. I wanted £10 under current subscription or I was off; they blinked first!

Most impressive thing so far is that I can access my Netflix easier. New handset is a bit rubbish though. Not only isn’t it a Star Wars only like our old one, it’s also smaller and less ergonomic.

I'm not looking forward to contacting Sky. I've been paying £20 quid a month for the past 2 years for the full package, (films, sports, box sets hd etc) all be it I've got old hd box.

How useful is Freesat over, say, Freeview?

I'm looking at options to drop Sky as I only really use it for movies and the odd thing on National Geographic and Universal which I could probably live without.

The Freeview tuner in my TV is useless so whilst I may be replacing the TV at some point a Freesat/Freeview box is cheap enough.

Now TV seems to cover the movies for a tenner or £55 for 12 months on their black Friday deal.

Was there not a chap on here that could help arrange retention deals?

Need to look into it for my mum, her Sky bill is something daft like £90 a month and all she really watches are free to air channels plus a handful of Asian ones.

Freesat has more or less the same channels plus a smattering of extra ones. There are a few that are also in HD on Freesat that aren't on HD on Freeview, and a few that aren't.

You can get all the regional variations of channels too, though, unlike Freeview which is tied to your locality.

The main selling point of Freesat is proper reception for people who can't get a Freeview signal. If you have an old Sky dish installed you can use it with a Freesat box without needing a new dish and cabling installed.

So if you had good Freeview coverage but a (good) HD TV but with a uselessly old/basic Freeview tuner, would you say it would be "better" to get a Freeview HD or a FreeSat box?

A FreeSat box can be picked up for £50 so it's not that expensive to try it.

That was Bagga, helped quite a few of us but not sure if he’s still around or not or even still in the business??

Just the threat of cancelling will hammer that down without trying. If they do follow through with the cancellation they'll be throwing offers at her to come back the moment it's switched off.

They told us on the phone that they were getting tough on that (after offering to knock it down from £80 to £50, which we refused), but now they're offering us absolutely everything TV-based for £38.

Alternatively get an IPTV sub and an app to run it on i.e Perfect Player, IPTV Smarters etc.

Then a Plex/Emby sub for VOD requirements.

Has anyone had any success moving from a Sky+HD Box to Sky Q after cancelling? We've received some very good offers to reactivate with our old box but our box is really showing its age now.

According to the advisor I chatted with you've got to wait 18 months after cancelling to sign up as new.

Live Chat (apparently) don't do Sky Q so you have to speak to a dedicated Sky Q team over the phone to switch, bit of a backwards system to say the least!

Leaving Sky has changed how we watch the tv, for the better .
After 6 years I've cancelled all my Sky TV (BoxSets, Kids, HD, Sports etc etc) as they weren't prepared to do any sort of decent retention offer.

I've kept my legacy broadband deal (£28pm for Fibre Max), so I'm going to see how I get on with my Smart TV, and if I can't deal with the sluggish Android UI I'll get either a 4K Roku or 4K Firestick and use that. I already have Prime, and if needs be I'll get Netflix.

The quote above is what I'm hoping will happen to me. I think I'm just used to how I've always consumed my TV, so using 'catch-up' services will be a case of remembering what's on rather than relying on Sky+ series links etc.
I'm now well into my life without Sky... tbh, I don't know why I didn't do it sooner! As far as I can see I was basically spending £50 a month with sky so I could pause, have my recordings in one place, watch reruns of stuff on UK Gold, and so I could watch the F1 and Football. Pointless!

In the first week it was hard, but I've actually now found that when going into the individual apps (iPlaper, Prime, 4OD etc) I have discovered so much more TV that I would have previously not seen using Sky. It's also made me search and use my Prime Video membership more.

My only dilemma now is whether I stick with the TV UI, or get Firestick/similar device.

For all those people who are on the fence about quitting Sky, try it, it's actually quite liberating!

As a starting point for any one haggling the live chat has just done us this:

- Line Rental
- Fibre Unlimited
- All the telly (on Sky+HD, so no Netflix included)

£62 for 18 months.

When our contract ran out a couple of months back it was going to be £80 just for the TV!

Currently trying to cancel myself. Pay £73 for unlimited broadband, line rental and all the channels except sports and movies.

Had several calls this year trying to get me to upgrade to sky q for an extra £12 a month but have no need for the additional facilities. For the past few weeks both my sky box and my back up spare box which is my parents old one are refusing to recognise my viewing card meaning I've only had the 5 terestrial channels.

After spending lots of time calling sky waiting for somone to answer I got through to be told the 2 solutions are to switch it off and on again which hasn't worked or pay the extra for sky q. The broadband has also been down since christmas day which is the final straw.

Think I'll be switching to vodafone for the broadband. My girlfriend leaves her fire stick with netflix on at mine which doesn't cost me anything but I'm also thinking of getting now tv and a freeview box with a recording function to replace the sky+ function as you can get them for about £20 on ebay. Will see what they do to try and retain me but at the minute I have no interest in staying. Its taken hours to get through today to even cancel and I've still not got through.
