Nebraska - Old curmudgeon, possibly on the verge of Alzheimers, wins a million dollars but has to travel to Nebraska to pick it up. His son thinks it's a scam but takes him across country to pick it up. Shown in black and white but also available in colour this is not one for the Marvel generation but more for those who appreciate a good story with a few laughs. 7/10
I have been looking forward to this. To watch in black and white, or colour? I am going for black and white as presumably that was the director's intention. Interesting that it was filmed in colour; I didn't know that.
Watched this, half in colour and half in b&w (logistical issues with the Now TV box). I'd certainly pick colour though.

Good story, some nice humour too. 8/10

Batman Assault on Arkham

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3139086/?ref_=fn_al_tt...

One of the best Comic Book anime's. The characters are excellently drawn, the whole movie has a kind of oceans 11 type slickness. The action scenes are pure Hollywood. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Harley Quinn & Joker kinda steal the show, but the rest are great too. If your into your DC, its all about the suicide squad, if your not, then its a good intro!
Just a warning, this may be a cartoon, but it is definitely not for children, sex and violence a plenty! I think its rated 13.

Finally saw Training Day with Denzil Washington, what a great film and lots of questions about the end justifying the means

Seen it shortly after the film's release. I still recall the Vatos scene (bath tub).
Dr. Dre had a small role too.

Fell asleep half way through, might try again to see how it ends but found the story pretty tedious tbh. Can't understand why anyone would film a road trip in black and white; added nothing imo.
Indeed, especially with quite a few landscape shots.

My Brother the Devil

London based drama about life on an estate. Gritty, quite decent actually. If you don't understand London slang, you may need a translator!

Watched Eden Lake yesterday, surprised by the ending - fully expected her to get away.
But then, that young kid got stabbed in the neck, and she also ran over the girl.

A Darker Reality, that was rather poor. Zodiac, I need to watch that one.

yup - I was surprised in more than a few places, really enjoyable TBH. Why can't DC bring this to their live action franchise?

RED2 - Bruce and Co back for another helping of silly spy shenanigans. You get what you pay for, everyone puts in a solid performance the fights don't get too silly, the plot is daft but it's a fair old brainout Friday night in movie.

One thing though, the bit towards the end where they are chasing out of London. It's so painfully obvious it is an airfield somewhere (thought it looked like Dunsfold and it was) it took a bit away from the action.

A solid 7/10 - worth a watch.

King Kong - the remake on ITV2. Some really good scenes in this film. Particularly the tramp steamer sailing with New York City in the background.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

9/10 better than the first one I think.

Not sure where it fits in the whole Avengers/Shield timeline though.

See for me he was the worst character. I just didn't feel connected towards him at all compared to all of the other. The guys done well to get to where he is now. Maybe if I new before hand more about the character he was playing I would have appreciated his role but he just bored me at times.

Great film though and can't wait for the day a moooshive Guardians of the galaxy/Thor/Avengers cast comes together in one film.

What If

The new Rom Com with Daniel Radcliffe and some girl who's name I forget.
It was actually really good - said to be the best romcom since 500 Days of Summer, I'd say it was better! Loved it.

7.5/10

Lucy

I'm sure you've all seen the trailer for this. It was basically the trailer - just an hour an a half longer. I knew it wouldn't be overly good but didn't think it would be as terrible as it was!

Just watched the trailer, don't think I could stomach the film. Maybe I'm just a miserable cynical bd. That being said I enjoyed 500 days.

Finally got round to watching Grand Budapest. Everything you would expect from Wes Anderson, rather enjoyable. I'd say 6.5/10

Went on IMDB to see what this was -

Wallace, who is burned out from a string of failed relationships, forms an instant bond with Chantry, who lives with her longtime boyfriend. Together, they puzzle out what it means if your best friend is also the love of your life.

Sounds like When Harry Met Sally -

Harry and Sally have known each other for years, and are very good friends, but they fear sex would ruin the friendship.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
Very much in the Richard Curtis/BritCom tradition. Pull together a group of disparate characters (a.k.a british archetypes) and throw them into an odd situation. I thought this was going to be a fish out of water but then they adapt type thing but it really wasn't apart from one character who had a path mapped out from the moment you first met them.
Very little actually happens and much of the action or back story is off screen so it's very much a character piece and as you would expect the cast put in an excellent performance. Maggie smith playing common and Bill Nighy but being particularly good.
An enjoyable film a few genuine laughs and a nice gentle experience overall.

Watched Locke as well last night. Interesting premise, not as dull as I thought it would be in the end but I did start getting bored towards the latter stages. 5.5/10

Outing to see "Sin City (2) A Dame To Kill For"

Whoop!

Well what would you expect? Obviously if the first film wasn't for you - you can switch off now!

More of the same, but better in several areas. I saw it in 2D - and would be interested in anyone out there who considered 3D worthwhile...

10/10 for the imagery, the sound track, the imagination, the actors. Some of the detail, especially, was exquisite and even better than "part 1". Some of the acting performances were really great, although I was already looking forward to a few. The cars (this is PH after all) were more attractive than "the broads". The colour treatment was a little less restrained than "SC1", but none-the-less stunning for it.

2/10 for the story. Not even as good as the first one in the franchise; didn't really have you waiting for anything to hang together. There were two actors especially who were obviously keen to be involved and got their short parts just shoehorned in, yet weren't developed beyond a short series of items then "boom". The opening was great, but not tied up properly, but otherwise very predictable. Otherwise "lacking" in the storytelling department.

But those two balance out to a very solid score for me - although I am biased, and did love the first:

9/10.

Don't waste any time - get out there and see it!
