he will be watching the films in the original order they were released, and I will apologise in advance for the prequels.....
That's not necessarily the best viewing order, especially for a first time viewing, as it completely destroys the "OMG, Vader was Luke's father??" reveal. A better viewing order is IV, V, I, II, III, VI - ie. the prequels as "flashback" between Empire and RotJ (see http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/star-wars/articles/17/...)
Or drop Ep I altogether and go with the 'Machete Order' of IV, V, II, III, VI (see http://www.nomachetejuggling.com/2011/11/11/the-st...
and http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/star-wars/18992/wo...)

It's a painful enough having to explain the sequel prequel thing.

I originally believed that watching them in the original broadcast order would be ideal for my (then) 5 year old son.

Well, obviously it's up to you. But the articles about the Machete Order (if you can plough through them - they're very long) make quite a well-reasoned and compelling argument for it making more sense that way, not less. Or. at least, telling a better and more cohesive story. I found the articles to be interesting reading. Bad idea. Just confused him no end ....

Incidentally, my oldest (a huge star wars fan) was named after a character in an Alan Dean Foster novel, with his middle name being Luke. Guess where that inspiration originated

I actually went up to Leicester Square to watch it. Not the Premier, mind, but a day trip to London especially to see it at that cinema when I could have seen it locally for a lot less (and sooner too, as it was booked up for weeks in advance at Leicester Square).
It just added to the disappointment.

Even though he's in the film, he had to pay for his flights to the US. He tells a little about Lucas's qualities as a director, and then the screening itself.
Official title announced - The Force Awakens

Now that just sounds like a proper Star Wars title
