Alan Yentob is also paid an obscene amount. Yes I get that he is 'Creative Director' an that there is a salary commensurate with the role, but the reputed additional £150k for presenting Imagine? Really?
He left that BBC role in 2015, and is not merely the presenter on Imagine. Perhaps your ire stems from how smug and irritating he is?TheInternet said:

I'm not always fond of what it is that he does, but he's good at it - I can see his content hits the target pretty well, even if I am not it.

Big jump from the top two to number 3?
Big difference in number of listeners too. I'm surprised that Jeremy Vine is not on that list.

Likewise when Simon Mayo left / forced to have a Jo Wiley + Him it didn’t really work but it was horrible the trolling she received so he left to stop it.
Steve Wright afternoon show is tired.
Surprised Ken Bruce isn’t on.
This is an amusing thread.
I don't think a lot of posters know what the market rate is for 'talent' within entertainment. Understandable, because we only get to see BBC stars' salaries.
They'll almost certainly be on less than their commercially-paid equivalents.
This just seems to be a lot of " (x) isn't worth (£y) because they're not funny"
Obviously that's subjective - plenty of people do rate them, otherwise they wouldn't have jobs.
Personally, if I were in media, I'd avoid the BBC for this reason - I can't imagine anything worse than having my personal salary details publicised for all to see. I think it's why some stars have left.

When reading about this issue in the last few days it's surprised me how few BBC people get paid huge sums of money. As has been said, once you get past the top handful it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.I don't think a lot of posters know what the market rate is for 'talent' within entertainment. Are we really saying that if Steve Wright said "Half a Mill! I'm not doing this for half a measly mill! I'm off to XFM!" that the BBC couldn't find a superior replacement for £200k from the bank of talented regional talent in the BBC network who are all on (I'm guessing now) substantially less than £100k.
20% of the talent on Radio Stoke is as good or better than half of the talent on the national networks. Multiplied by all the other regional stations, and there's a queue of deserving people who'll never get the shot at the slot which SW is squatting on decade after interminable decade.

Then they're stupid and could be paid even less.Or the reality is there just isn't the commercial demand to absorb so many news/radio/sports/whatever presenters outside the BBC, and while some headliners might get the big bucks elsewhere a lot are on vastly inflated wages compared to what the wider market would give them.
You might even find a lot would have to find other jobs completely.
