I'd rather spend a night in the company of ///ajd than suffer such a waste of time as watching this film.
Steady on now chap, it cant be that bad!People often disagree about films here (whispers Arrival) and things can get a bit heated, but play the ball not the man.
Kingsman - I've seen it before but spotted it on netflix and as there is a sequel coming I thought I'd do a refresher. Still enjoyed it, yes it's silly but it's consistent silly the fights are well choreographed (especially in the church) the characters are strong and you actually care about the characters. That it takes the P out of JB and similar films and has the epic world spanning megalomaniac bad guy the recent Bonds have lacked it gets a thumbs up from me.
I didn't even find SLJ's bad guy that annoying this time.
8/10
On the other hand, as it was on TV a few weeks ago and I recorded it.
Quantum of Solace - After the excellent comeback of Casino Royale, expectations were high for QoS but I remember it getting a right kicking. I was sure I had seen it but didn't recall any details and it couldn't be that bad could it?
Yes it could. It was a real mess of a film incoherent plot, bad characters, rubbish fights/action. Probably the worst JB film ever.

Rewatched Guardians of the Galaxy the other night and then went to see the second one yesterday. Enjoyed both, yes they don't have massively in depth plots but who cares, they're entertaining.
I'm getting better at not reading the Dutch subtitles on films now too, although it's interesting how often the subtitles don't quite match the dialogue, and its a good way to learn new words

Over the course of the long weekend I did two long train journeys and managed to watch some old films to pass the time.
Breakfast at Tiffany's
It's a film I have been meaning to watch for years but never got round to it. It had some genuinely funny moments, and some touching moments. Didn't really go anywhere, but I can see why it is a classic and a favourite film for some people as it had a certain charm to it.
Dogma
I've seen it before but not for a very long time, so decided to watch it again. If you have any kind of religious background (I had a CofE upbringing) then there's quite a lot more to it than meets the eye. I enjoyed it.

Jules et Jim. After watching a few old French films this last week, we were hoping this was as good as its reputation, but it wasn't.
In 1962, it was probably quite radical, but it just felt disjointed and annoying to me. Characters just dropped in/out of the story, unrealistically and without explanation. The acting seemed strangely unemotional, too, which is odd for a romantic drama. Perhaps there's a clever reason for that?

Carnage on iplayer; Simon Amstell's satirical take on what it would be like, if in the near future eating meat was outlawed and everyone was vegan. I saw him talk about it at one of Mark Kermode's shows a few months ago; you need to like his brand of humour but I really enjoyed it. Would recommend; you'll know after the first 5 minutes if it's for you.

Margin Call - Last night on BBC2, a great cast made this rather brutal in the trading/finance sense film a good watch.

One of my favourite movies of recent years; makes a great double-bill with The Big Short.8/10
In fact... just downloading and going to watch again!

Interesting stuff, plot wasn't the strongest but was OK as more of a documentary. Story about the Norwegian push to operate divers at 360m to build their North Sea Oil pipeline & a resulting conspiracy.

I think you had to be more than a little mad to do that job especially back then.
As for the 'real events' apparently this was supposed to link (somehow) with a nasty little accident on the Byford Dolphin back in the day. Going from 9 atmospheres down to 1 more or less instantly sounds like a very nasty (but quick) way to go especially if you're in the hatch at the time.
