Good films I watched this weekend (Vol 2)
Discussion
I saw Fury yesterday, thought it was great and probably the best film I've seen this year after Lone Survivor.
I thought the household scene was decent and added to the movie but each to their own. I thought the soundtrack and the sound fx were brilliant! When the shells ricochet and I was sat in the middle of the cinema it actually made me flinch. Definitely buying on DVD.
Next film I hope to see go in here when it comes out is Whiplash, that looks good!

I want to watch this - but I have to be honest and say I was disappointed with Lone Survivor - I was convinced I'd love it after reading what others said on here. But I didn't...I thought the household scene was decent and added to the movie but each to their own. I thought the soundtrack and the sound fx were brilliant! Interesting movie, dont know how they got Tom Hardy on board, I thought it would be really dull but it was actually ok to watch, just a guy in his car talking on the phone for 1hour 30 mins. 7/10
Saw this a few weeks ago, as a film it shouldn't work, but I thought it was a good watch. I think Tom Hardy choices a lot of different roles to avoid being pigeon-holed as a one dimensional actor, and when you look at the list of his previous work it does show adaptable he is.Interesting movie, dont know how they got Tom Hardy on board, I thought it would be really dull but it was actually ok to watch, just a guy in his car talking on the phone for 1hour 30 mins. 7/10
Zorba the Greek ( 1964 )
I sat down to watch the DVD tonight and saw a truly remarkable film. Of course I'd seen the famous dance scene on YouTube and whistled the song many times, but the entire film was fantastic acting - Quinn who was completely over the top, Bates who was moody and cowering and the village widow was really very fanciable. And in parts a proper Greek tragedy.
In B+W, it was real film noir - the blacks were intense black, the whole film was a feast with superb close ups of real people - they don't make them like that any more.
Take a trip down memory lane and try this. A glass of ouzo at your side would be even better.
Alexis Zorba: 'Am I not a man? And is a man not stupid? I'm a man, so I married. Wife, children, house, everything. The full catastrophe'.
I think I'll give the Marvel Wolverine and co a miss in favour of this anytime.

Nightcrawlers
A preview tonight for Cineworld unlimited customers, so not sure when it is out but it is very twisted, very well acted, and very good. Not a fun watch, lathing there were some darkly humorous bits.
Essentially a smart but morally bankrupt and weird Jake Gyllenhal plays an ambulance/police chaser trying to film the news and sell it, the more graphic and violent the better. Until he becomes further embroiled.
A very stark and slightly obvious critique of the Facebook / YouTube generation where the instinct is for instant hits and filming everything, and the horror of violence has lost its impact.
Very well put together and suspect JG might be up for an oscar with his performance

Misery has been on cable every night for the last 2 weeks. I can watch this over andover, it never gets old.
"He never got out of the cockadoodie car!!!" LOL classic line!!
Bates played a right psycho. I always played out in my mind what I would do if I was ever in that situation and I must say I think I would have ended up killing her long before she ever got the idea to break both my ankles with a sledge hammer, aka "hobbling".

Watched the new turtles movie. It was much better than I expected after hearing a few iffy reviews. I didn't know Michael Bay was involved but I said to my Mrs the bits with the Shredder in were very transformers esk so wasn't surprised to find that he'd produced.
I loved the cartoons and films as a kid so it gets extra points for nostalgia. Why on gods green earth Megan Fox felt the need to plastic surgery I don't know but she looks like a porcelain doll......
I'm not expecting Oscar winning material but if you were being critical the story line was paper thin and the ending pretty much the same as the Amazing Spider man reboot........
The turtles were good though and think it's doing well enough there'll be sequel or 5.....
6.5/10
Also Pitch Perfect is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me also
Agree with all of the above. I was gutted though that the cartoon theme never appeared during the film. That's a bit like watching Ghostbusters and the theme never kicking in.I loved the cartoons and films as a kid so it gets extra points for nostalgia. On a whole it caught my attention more than I thought it would. Its not a great film but much better than I thought it would be the Turtles were actually pretty funny. It was just the end of it that I started to think, fk me they have went too far. Up until then it was pretty good but even the CGI looked unbelievable let alone what they were doing. And I know we are talking about ninja turtles or hero turtles if you will but there has to be a level of believability. It just got stupid at the end.
I also watched green mile 9/10 all day long a truly fantastic film, by the end I was fighting back the tears. Beautifully put together, superb acting and an amazing story.

Big Hero 6. Considering Lassetter of Pixar fame been producing it, I'd say that it was a pale shadow of old Pixar. As a kids film, though, it's okayish. 5/10
Fury - watched that immediately after the first one. It was hard to watch, but the attention to detail is simply majestic, and the plot was excellent too. Apart from some bits at the ending. Next to nothing of American-hero-hollywood-cheesy bolloks. Good war film, better than most. Less bradpity-ish than his last films 8/10

The conjuring.
I have not been scared watching a film since a kid. i find 'horror films' amusing. until now that is
my word this film had me jumping. ok all the tricks are there and you know they are coming but its so well done.
Very good film. very well made, good acting.
be warned. don't watch it in the dark like i did

22 Jump Street - great continuation of the first film, and despite plenty of references to the fact the next mission is never as interesting, I still really enjoyed it. Not something I ever thought I'd say, but Ice Cube was hilarious, especially his face at the dinner scene. The credits sequence with the endless sequels was very funny as well

Agreed, The Conjuring is a really good horror flick. And now I am going to insist that you watch Insidious at night alone or with your OH. It's done as well as The Conjuring, in fact I give it a slight edge over The Conjuring. I am eager to hear your thoughts on Insidious!!I am a horror/thriller film/book buff and I'm sure you know there is a major shortage of well done horror films these days. But the following are fantastic and I consider them to be a must see if horror is one of your favorite genres and you've been disappointed by the consistent string of flops being released.
Insidious
Sinister
Mama
Open Grave
I have quite a few more I can list but I just woke up and still bit foggy, can't think of the titles lol.
FUN FACT...
Recently there has been a horror film released that centers around a doll that becomes possessed; ANNABEL is the name. If the doll looks familiar to you,
you are right. It is the same doll from the film THE CONJURING.
Another fun fact for you; skip seeing the movie ANNABEL, it sucked so bad! And the doll really had nothing to do with the films intent lol they could have done the same story, less the doll.
