Star Wars: Rogue One
Discussion
Bump.
I saw RO mentioned on the IX thread, bit disrespectful to have it tucked away as a byline, when it's the best since Empire (note: I like TFA a lot, and oscillate between that and RO as 3rd best).
I often read how RO is a mediocre film "saved by the Vader 3rd act", yet I often countenance, were these viewers at the pisser during the Ninja battle on Jedha? the raid on the Eadu Imperial Base? the heist and aerial raids on Scarif?
There are only 2 issues I have with RO,
1. The uncanny valley of Tarkin and Leia, which is due to CGI of (around the) eyes IMNHO (I have an idea of how this may be improved).
2. Why the fk wasn't Gareth Edwards given VIII and on (a trilogy of his own?) he gets it.
Anyways, in the words of a youtube reactionary: that was incredible, totally wicked, are you filming this?
9/10

Some sort of fall out and another director was brought in to reshoot scenes. We may never know the true story.
Similar thing happened on SOlo.
It's Kathleen Kennedy then, I not going to go down the path of social media vitriol, however, IMNHO, if TLJ is the sum fruition of her talents, she has a lot to be humble about.Similar thing happened on SOlo.

Watched it again the other day. I found Peter Cushing's resurrection much, much worse than I remembered. He should've stayed in the shadows or been replaced with a real actor. bloomen said:

Doesn't age well. its the eyes, real people have subtle (eye flickers) movements that have been failed to be captured here. I noticed it on Disney Christmas Carol earlier too, see Polar Express for reference, I also believe it to be exacerbated, as we know what the real Cushing would have done. Slippers and all.bloomen said:

I'd rate RO and Solo above the original films (and way over the sequels and prequels)
The two films stand alone very well - and I would happily applaud them without any knowledge of the franchise
Jules, you are a very wise man, and a true star wars fan. (I am absolutely not being patronising), Ron saved Solo, history will be a lot kinder to Solo, than TLJ.The two films stand alone very well - and I would happily applaud them without any knowledge of the franchise
I watched R1 and enjoyed, am going to watch it tomorrow to see what a rewatch does. It does require having watched the other films though, it doesn't stand alone and is not even in the ball park as SW and EMpire. Though it might stand up better to RotJ. I think it was the most enjoyable SW film I'd watched since Revenge of the Sith.

Halb, Empire, for various reasons, will never be bettered, not in this social media age. You'd never be able to keep a lid on the various tone changes and "twists" for a start. With that in mind. Empire is, and always shall be #1 in the Star Wars universe.
A New Hope (retrospectively) is #2, it kicked this st off, with a few holes (Han most definitely shot first, fixed by Cassian in RO).
We can then argue about #3, if you say anything other than RO, you are well meaning but wrong.
