Films I watched this week
Discussion
Grownups ( 2010 )
Typical Adam sandler film.. I thought it was ok, right up until the point that I woke up and the end credits were rolling.
Ill have to give it a 4/10
A very slapstick and shouty comedy, with lots of "im great and you're worthless; here, have some of my charity" type of moments.
I don't know If i can build up the will power to watch the sequel... meh

Ghost in the Shell -
It's visually stunning, but I didn't a clue what was going on, felt like another comic book film written with an audience who already knew the story in mind. Gave up. No score as I didn't finish it.
Bleed for this -
8/10 Based on a true story as I found out later - I assumed Roger Mayweather was supposed to be a Floyd Mayweather type character, seems he is his real-life uncle. ha ha. Anyway - it's a great little low-budget boxing film with a great cast. I'm sill not sure how they can make this with Miles Teller and Aaron Echhart for $6m and the bloody Emoji Movie costs $50m.

yes and this is the general film discussion thread. For those who generally cant be arsed with posting in a different thread for every film.
It's actually a discussion of what films people have watched, rather than an in-depth discussion of each film. I think it's a reasonable request that extensive discussion about a certain film should be done in the discussion thread for that film, where one exists. I don't think any of us need that sort of pain in our lives.

War Of The Planet Of The Apes.
I'm not going to score it because it's a weird one. It's a beautiful film. Excellent special effects with gorgeous cinematography and a wonderful soundtrack.
At times I felt a little bored, yet at the end I felt like clapping.
I enjoyed it but not as I expected too.

Trainspotting 2
I really wanted to like it and although some scenes were laugh out loud funny the entire package was pretty lame. Drowning in its own nostalgia is bang on the mark.

Yes nostalgic but that's what it was all about.
Acting by Ewen Bremner hilarious as well as brilliant, a thoroughly entertaining film that hit the midweek spot.
I made a point of seeing the original Trainspotting first to get in the mood and that worked really well.
8/10 from me.
Death at a Funeral
A broad farce, directed by Frank Oz, about various disasters that happen at a funeral. I'd never heard of it (or the apparently inferior US remake) but it had a few good laughs which justify its pretty solid reviews on IMDB.
Worth a look if you are in the mood for farce.
6.5/10 (gaining a mark for having Peter Dinklage and Daisy Donovan in it, losing a mark for having the very annoying Kris Marshall)

Captain Fantastic
The name of the film made me think it was just another silly super-hero type movie, but it isn't.
It's about a man and his six kids who live a nomadic lifestyle in the wilds of America, who eventually concede that they need to integrate more with society.
Great film. Well worth watching.

There's some things that were great the first time around and shouldn't be revisited like an ex from 20 years ago. It's never going to work no matter how much rose tinted the glasses are Yes nostalgic but that's what it was all about.

9/10 Dunkirk
Probably the best war film i have seen and i have seen a lot. So emotional, so bleak, to me felt like i was actually there. The spitfire scenes were worth the ticket price alone.
Glad i saw it at the cinema, the sound is what makes it. i was sitting on the edge of my seat throughout. Really good homage, and not Americanized, to the heroes that died on the beaches.

Yes, yes. But what about the material on the train seat? Or the fact that the date mark on one of the truck tyres was from 2015 (if you zoom in) or what about the UPVC window clearly visible in a split second shot of the sea front?Probably the best war film i have seen and i have seen a lot. Also, was there the correct number of rivets on the side panelling of the carriages, very important! (There are actually some people like that, the long winter nights must simply fly by...)
