I've not seen Gravity, but I understand it is one of those "spectacle" films, like Avatar, that needed to be seen in the cinema and that, once on the small screen (and hence lacking its spectacle), it falls down somewhat as a film.

Certainly that was my feeling when I saw Avatar on the small screen having seen it at the cinema.

Agreed. Not a film I'd like to see twice, but some stunning FX. I really liked the use of silence.

I watched Gravity on a tiny screen on a Boeing 777 - still thought it was perfectly watchable & quite good.

Defo would've been better on a large TV or at the cinema.

Wow! Any film which was worse than "Gravity" , I just don't want to see. (Gravity was) Definitely the worst film I've seen in the last couple of years.
This is the Gravity that won 7 oscars, 223 other awards and scores 7.7 on imdb?

It had (large) faults, but you must have seen very few films to think it the worst!
It was the only film recently that I didn't finish watching. Pretty boring as far as I was concerned. I'm not impressed by special effects so maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it. Each to his own I suppose, it would be a pretty boring world if we all liked the same things.

Just as a counter-point, what films do you like then?

Gravity's in my top 5 to be honest, i think it's stunning. Loses a little not seeing it on the big screen and yes there are some plot conveniences but that's true of most films.

I enjoy a lot of different types of films, but tend to avoid big showy blockbusters. I've enjoyed every Coen brothers film I've seen, O Brother, Where art Thou being probably my favourite. Also understated films like The Railwayman. and subtle comedies like The Old Lady in the Van.

Anything CGI on your list?

If that's the case i can understand why you might not like it.

I enjoyed Fury a lot. Some rather ugly but well-coveyed scenes of war... and all that goes with it.

Annoying as fk dialogue when there is ( yes George I mean you)
Oh sacrifice what a great guy like fking Ace rimmer.
Feels god damn it audience feel, look at her and feel ,you will feel for her. Love her she’s strong and brave and strong and can do anything.
Annoying lead actress.

Repeat for 2 hours.

It looked great. For some that’s enough.

Ad Astra.

I had high hopes being a sci-fi fan and seeing the good critical response.
Where? It was a first class turd and everyone on here seems to agree.

It's a brilliant projection of near future and the best father-son story I've seen in ages. Pure poetry. You wouldn't like it only if you're a big girl.

it works at home on a smaller screen especially if you have some sort of 5.1 sound system. Theres a scen where you cant hear anything but you can cetainly 'feel' it through the sub.

Midsommer

Thought this was very, very poor.

Anyone comparing it favourably to the original version of "The Wicker Man" needs their head examining.

Quite, and the way the girlfriend smirked when her boyfriend went through what he did, despite not being his fault as he was drugged up to the eyeballs, just made little sense. Are we supposed to be happy for her?

Out of all the films I’ve watched in the last year, the Lighthouse and Midsommar were the only two that really left a lasting impression. Originals will always be better perhaps, and these two are definitely hard going to watch.

Jarring.

Mortal Engines

Quite impressed that they managed to put so many nonsensical bits of plots together and find still find space fit in all the plot holes.

Apparently the book is ok but the film hasn't inspired me to bother reading it.
