What has annoyed me about BGT this year is that the winner could've/should've entered the X-Factor, that is the singing competition right? The purpose of BGT is to find an act for the Royal Variety Performance? The past 2 years BGT has followed the script, worthy winners and true variety, however, due to the nature of their acts they have made Mr Cowell very little money. As much as Jai has a great voice, I can hardly see the Queen or Prince Charles being enthralled by his act.

By the way, the bellringers were my choice to win.
confused

Have you ever actually seen a Royal Variety show?

Or are you suggesting that the likes of the Beatles, Nat King Cole, the Corrs and Kylie Minogue shouldn't have taken part? After all, who wants mere singers in a variety show!

The clue is in the title... Variety, as in various types of act.
Yup, I've seen plenty.

I agree a singer makes good variety, my point is that singers already have a competition that'll give them a place on the show. BGT promotes itself as vehicle to find an act for the RVS, can you really see the Queen giving a standing ovation to yet another singer, or can you see her applauding an act like the bell ringers?

Problem is the bell ringers won't make Cowell a penny, sod the RVS, BGT is just a cash cow for Cowell.

Talking about Midge Ure. Did anyone see him on Popstar to Operastar?
He looks like a bald Keith Harris!

Does anyone think it wasn't as good as precious years.. They raced through the 10th-4th places.. *Light off* *Light off*.. then got to the last three. No tension at all and no party poppers when Jai won, no pyrotechnics.. Just basically, "Yeah well done, do your song as we're waiting to go home"..

IMO.

The thousands of advert breaks leave little time for the programme.

I'm not sure what difference it makes to Cowell? He'll make a stload out of the show itself, regardless of who wins, and he'll make a stload out of whichever acts he chooses to continue working with, regardless of whether or not they won the actual show.

In terms of who actually wins, unless you're suggesting the result is rigged, then that's still down to the public vote, so presumably you would want to ban singers from Britain's Got Talent, seeing as they've got the X Factor all to themselves?

Only problem with that is that X Factor is only interested in pop stars. Can you see the likes of Paul Potts and Susan Boyle in that format?

Phones have bene diddled before.

Only a pop wannabe will win X-Factor, but they get all sorts through to the final. LIke that overweight Irish lady. And all three final acts on BGT could have bene on X-Factor, the winner, the lil boy and the jackson five, even caravan man could have been on X-Factor.

But, if this did happen what would we have win BGT? There isn't much else hehe

Surely to goodness there must be!! I know the acts they chose were mostly horrific...moreso than last year (anyone remember the woodchopping man?). I think it was more the choices of the judges than shovelled in crap and some half decent singers.

I am sure they have already prepared themselves for this eventuality.

I was following BGT on twitter last night and was amazed at the bile and homophobic comments by "adults" directed towards an 11 year old boy.

I think only Jai could have been on X Factor, isn't there a 14 or 16 years old minimum age. BGT has no limit.

And even at that, Jai's voice and style would not fit X Factor.

I believe that he was on XF last year, but did not make it through Boot Camp???

I have watched this thread, and many newspaper reports, with particular interest. It is amazing to see the many different views that people take on this....

I actually stay in the same village as Jai, this weekend has been fabulous, it seems to have really pulled the community together, which makes a bloody change.

Before his recent exposure, he was a well respected young man, doing a VERY IMPORTANT job, sadly for the community there is no way that he will continue in his old role.

Well done young man, all the best for the future, you have a whole community loving you up here.

(And I really hope my post does not sound too condescending)

Having had to sit through the final I honestly feel the programme should be re-titled BGVLT; there was very little of what I would call outstanding talent in the programme. If they were the best of the entrants, the rest must have been excruciatingly bad. A programme past it's sell-by date I think.

Interested to read that he did make the bootcamp of XF last year although didn't make it and changed his style to operatic for BGT. Very versatile.

I am actually from Ayrshire too. Makes you proud to be from the same area, especially after the Scheme being on TV
