I can't believe that anybody actively listens to the guff that is The Archers.

It is dreary, hammy background noise in our house before Front Row starts.

I'm assuming that it is some sort of in-joke.

I'm sure they will...eventually. Jennifer will pop round just to be nosy when there is a strange smell coming from within. All is quiet. She sees a window without any curtains and peers in. The glass is warm and covered in condensation. She can just make out lots of pots with green plants being grown. There is plenty of lighting.

Oh, she thinks they must be very active gardeners with all that greenery, I wonder if they are selling them?...to be continued.

Didn't they host parties and the like - Or was that a one off?

I think they had a housewarming, to which none of the locals were invited, but I've not heard of them since.

Alice is turning alcoholic, and is also pregnant.
Alice being an alcoholic was first floated aaaaages ago (anyone remember when?), but I guess it was parked until it became a useful device. Remember when she made a scene at Nic's wake?

Also, the accents why can’t they get actors from the West Country who speak with a “country” accent as opposed to people putting on stupid, clearly false accents.
Because its set in Worcestershire

Felpersham = Evesham, Borchester=Worcester
I live in a village 6 miles from Evesham. Tbh it’s pretty accurate. Ambridge is the real village of Inkberrow IIRC

I would say that Eddie and Clarrie have accurate 'country' accents. If it's not their own voice then great acting !

It escalated quick, didn't it!

One minute she's having a secret drink, the next she can't spend five minutes in the bathroom without screaming the place down.

I reckon it'll be like Eastenders, and she be right as rain inside a month.

She’s a chip off the old block.

Wasn’t it Peggy that had an alcoholic husband?

What's the story about Philip's 'slaves' ? I've missed a few episodes (work getting in the way of my listening schedule) then I tune in to hear Philip and Gavin discussing selling their workforce! WTF!
Is this a normal thing in Wales/Ambridge, or have I missed something?

The slaves appear to belong to Phillip.

It’s a story line that I don’t recognise. Is it really a problem in the country? Not that I’m aware of, but perhaps that’s the point...

He's been using slave labour for years. The fire at the hotel was caused by one of them who was starving hungry through not being fed properly, so he tried to make himself some cheese on toast.

If I was starving hungry, I'd have just eaten bread and cheese, but perhaps that's just me...

Gavin's been pretending to have a gambling problem because Kirsty overheard him talking to his dad about 'the horses', which is what they call their slaves.

And now Philip's decided he's broke, so he's going to sell the slaves and retire to Wales with Kirsty. Only Gavin's decided the slave who started the fire is actually a nice bloke (and bought him a Gameboy or something), and he's finding that morality and slave-mastery do not happy bedfellows make.

In short, an everyday story of country folk. Or something.

It appears to be ; I've read about a number of cases of individuals being kept , literally as slave labour . Typically, they have learning difficulties or are illegal immigrants

It's an issue here in Cornwall. Last year 4 people were charged after smuggling in 29 "workers" from Vietnam. There's even a Modern Slavery task force within Devon & Cornwall Police. As you say, it's often our most vulnerable people.
