Watched with the wife and we both really enjoyed it

I'm a car nut, she definitely isn't

It's a light entertainment show with cars in
Occasionally they nail something like the Eddie Kidd feature
On the whole it's an hour of fun escapism
I get to watch nice cars too

See you next week

PS I'm aware the above has all been said many times before

The caravan bit wasn't funny or interesting enough, I'd have been interested to see say Paddy's bed layout given his'van looked about 5ft long and how they actually got on sleeping in them (if they even did) and the whole zorbing bit was a classic case of being fun to do, but not making for great telly.

The STO segment felt a bit like it spent too much time setting up the "Lambos are all flash and actually a bit rubbish" thing than actually discussing and showcasing the car.

It wasn't bad, but both segments felt like missed opportunities. I do really like the two features format and no track-test/celebs/news nonsense though.

So 3 caravan manufacturers and 3 car manufacturers thinking wtf was all that about. tting around giving absolutely no meaningful input on any of the products. As mentioned earlier this is lazy television production and very poor quality.
Enjoyed the piece on the Sto, but Harries while maybe a better driver will never review a car as well as Clarkson or at least with as much entertainment.
As mentioned a massive bit of publicity on main stream media!
When you think about it the three caravans chosen did represent three different takes on what ‘modern’ caravaning might be (but won’t)
Paddy’s was ‘let’s cram everything a caravan should have in a tiny space, to prove it doesn’t work!’
Freddie’s ‘ trendy and hip, but ultimately pretty hopeless in UK weather’
Chris’s ‘ it’s a trailer tent, we’ve had those for years, all the disadvantages of both tents and caravans combined’. Bet they stayed in that most of the night Though (assuming they didn’t feck off to a hotel and fight each other)

I think they should have used more attainable cars, there’s a few starting to come through. Highlighting the headache of having to use a public charger with a trailer on might have been good.

In reality all the above is irrelevant as it’s just about entertainment and it works too bizarrely.

There has to be another way. He’s ruining it.

Give Mat Watson a chance. Quite charming. Quite funny. Knows about cars. 3-0 up against Paddy.
I’d rather they give Shmee150 a shot than mr drag race.

Paddy is amusing and people like him. Top Gear isn’t a show for grumpy middle aged car enthusiasts who don’t like change, just because CH is a car person it doesn’t mean the show is made for car nerds. If it was the BBC wouldn’t still be commissioning it.

I think it emphasised the fact that electric cars aren’t ‘not very good at towing’ but instead ‘completely incapable of towing reliably’

Polestar’s usually acceptable range mileage rapidly withered to nothing because of modest sized & quite aerodynamic box trailer whereas Audi relieved of trailer tent completed a journey that it’s trip computer previously calculated that it wouldn’t by a significant margin.
Do we really know that from that piece?

Did we find out how many miles they actually did towing on a full charge?

How many campers will be driving off road whilst towing, running their cars round laps on a field and then doing another 100 miles without being able to stop for charge?

It would have been interesting to know how far the cars actually got whilst towing in more realistic conditions. (Well, to a point. The chances of me ever needing to tow a caravan/tent with an electric car are pretty much zero).

The price of camping equipment never ceases to amaze me. These, and camper vans, always cost the earth.

They should bring back Chris Goffey to liven things up!

That would be bad…

All he knows about cars is the 1/4 mile time and if the infotainment system is up to date.

I can’t quite believe I’m typing this, but I’d much rather have paddy…

I wasn’t sure about the new line up to begin with, but over the last few series I really think the balance is about right: CH - proper car guy, AF - will try absolutely anything, balls of steel, PMcG oafish buffoon. (Clearly the weak link)
It’s a different dynamic from CHM, but works as well.
Changing one of those elements now would break the whole thing and you’d have to start again.
As others have said top gear is an entertainment show now and for me at least it’s as entertaining as it’s ever been.

Don’t perfection be the enemy of pretty damn good.

I realise this isn’t possibly the thing to say on PH - but does anyone else just fast forward through the hypercar bits?

I realise it’s entertainment but I think these cars are a total irrelevance and have no desire to own one. I’m talking about these endless identikit Lamborghinis or these carbon fibre whatever it is that’s 2kg lighter than last years.

They’re bot something I would ever want to own no matter if you gave me a billion quid. They’re too fragile. On the other hand “real life” stuff - Mustangs, Challengers - stuff that’s in your face but doesn’t look like you rented it for a wedding - is much more of a draw.

Obviously this won’t be everyone’s views, but these outlandish super cars are just booooring.

It was a duff episode but that's always going to happen occasionally. The current three are, astonishingly, really good. When this line up was announced I honestly thought it would kill the show off.

....Having rented a Mustang for a "prom". I pretty much assume things like Mustangs and Challengers ARE rentals for a chavvy wedding.

I get your point about the supercars though. Even if I could, I'm not sure I would own one like that Lambo.

The paintwork and polka dots on the Lambo were like something you'd find on a Renault Twingo.

I don't find high revving NA V10 powered cars boring to watch. I'm glad everyone doesn't have your view about more "normal" cars being the main part of the show. I don't fancy watching a programme on diesel SUVs smile

It's a show for people whose only car knowledge comes from Top Gear shows. ie 'none car folk' = 'muggles'.

Except it demonstrated the major relevant fact, that they didn't actually address, which is that EVs generally can't tow the caravans that people alreay own. They dressed it up as 'the future of caravanning' rather tha doing some proper consumer-interest reviews.
Oh dear, does anyone really still expect Top Gear to do a "Consumer Interest Review"?

You are not on your own there, there was a point in time when a Super Car really meant something, nowadays there is a new one every week and they are just irrelevant to anybody in the real world. Toys for the uber rich kids or collectors.

Ah the swansong last version

until the next one
and the next one
and the next one..........
Irrelevant to the post I was quoting.
Bloody hell what is it with people on here recently, specifying who can and can't reply to their posts, and how relevant it's got to be? Like a bunch of teenage girls. DON'T TALK TO ME!! SO UNFAAAAAIR!!!
He has a point. His comment was about the fact that a car review took place. The make and model actually being irrelevant.

The reply was directed purely at the fact that a particular car model was quoted. Thus taking the sentence out of context.

Your post is weirdly over the top. He merely directs us to the fact that the initial reply is unrelated to the conversation taking place. You have somehow extended a simple statement implying that something is out of context into a deep-seated need to control. Or something. Might I suggest you think more clearly before overreacting biggrin
