Oh dear, does anyone really still expect Top Gear to do a "Consumer Interest Review"?

Bizarrely, yes! We have an EQC coming next month and while I didn’t expect a road test I was hoping for something said about it. Think we got Paddy liking it’s looks, and Fred saying ‘not bad that’ at the interior. Even a semi accurate range conclusion would’ve been handy.

That said, there’s plenty of information available about it elsewhere, and the episode was enjoyable. As mentioned above when they start off a challenge and then add a zorb or a chilli eating contest I sit and think ‘what the hell, what’s the point in this,’ but end up having a chuckle regardless.

It's precisely because I have no desire to own a hypercar that I like watching telly about them as a curiosity. EV's and caravans are of no interest. I like escapism TV, where I can watch someone spend a fortune wearing out someone else's tyres as many super/hypercar owners never explore their cars performance as they are too afraid to break it or devalue it. Driving press cars must be a real laugh and more fun than actually owning one except for the minority that can afford to rag them properly.

It was silly but I enjoyed it. Their chemistry is very good.
Yep! Both the wife and I enjoyed it for what it was, an hour of light entertainment. Some laugh-out-loud moments.

I like the fact that the three presenters seemed to enjoy themselves (most!) of the time as well.
This is the key. My wife likes Paddy and Freddy and she found the chilli eating thing hilarious. She doesn't find Harris at all entertaining and grabbed the remote the FFWD through the Lambo review.

Being honest, I didn't stop her. Irrelevant and uninteresting car as far as I am concerned. I do like Harris but I have to be interested in what he's driving as well. He's not like Clarkson who could make any vehicle interesting/entertaining in someway.

I've only sorta realised I just don't care for these cars anymore, even if I could afford them. I bought TG mag for the first time in ages... and I just couldn't bring myself to read it. Couldn't muster the interest. Earlier in the day, I was watching one of these ridiculous £xx million LA/Hollywood Hills mansions walk throughs. Got to the garage and my eyes glossed over all the hypercars and focused on the F150 Raptor in the back! A mini-Baja truck more interesting than a fleet of lambos and bentleys.

I'm liking this TG to be honest, Paddy just needs the edge taking off him (and the volume turning down) but Freddy and Harris are fine. I don't outright hate Paddy, but he can become grating and just needs winding in.

I did think they perhaps did a bit of a hatchet job on the EVs. I mean why didn't they charge them? seemed a bit "designed to fail".

I thought that episode was hilarious, and the Huracan STO segment was probably the weakest bit for me.

It’s entertaining IMO and I still enjoy the nerdy stuff like Edd China’s workshop diaries.
Totally agree, I thought the hot laps was very funny, almost did myself a mischief laughing at them.

Typical they had the STO last night, there was one at my local breakfast meet yesterday, but heavy rain saw my son and me deciding not to venture out.

They said they had a full charge at the start. Where exactly were they going to charge them up on top of a remote hill?

Mink are getting their moneys worth out of the advertising.

I read that they crammed a queen size bed (albeit a short one, I think), plus a canvas bunk bed for a child in there

Been aware of Mink for a few years - before they were officially available in the uk. The market they’re developed for doesn’t really work in the uk. They’re meant to be used for overnight fishing/hunting trips rather than anything we do over here.
They were also about £7.5k then too.

So 3 caravan manufacturers and 3 car manufacturers thinking wtf was all that about. tting around giving absolutely no meaningful input on any of the products. As mentioned earlier this is lazy television production and very poor quality.
Enjoyed the piece on the Sto, but Harries while maybe a better driver will never review a car as well as Clarkson or at least with as much entertainment.
At least they didn't just trash them or set them on fire like Clarkson would have done.

I realise this isn’t possibly the thing to say on PH - but does anyone else just fast forward through the hypercar bits?

I realise it’s entertainment but I think these cars are a total irrelevance and have no desire to own one. I’m talking about these endless identikit Lamborghinis or these carbon fibre whatever it is that’s 2kg lighter than last years.

They’re bot something I would ever want to own no matter if you gave me a billion quid. They’re too fragile. On the other hand “real life” stuff - Mustangs, Challengers - stuff that’s in your face but doesn’t look like you rented it for a wedding - is much more of a draw.

Obviously this won’t be everyone’s views, but these outlandish super cars are just booooring.
Yup. Identikit car, going round indentikit circle with an overlay of identikit verbiage. Useful slot for going to get a beer though.

No. Car reviews are in every series. Did they not review the Huracan tonight?
Review is pushing it. Lots of shiny photography, tyre smoke and sideways action. Same as every boilerplate review.

Boring review followed by pointless slapstick. A lazy and uninspired episode. They can do much better.

Ah the swansong last version

until the next one
and the next one
and the next one..........
Irrelevant to the post I was quoting.
Bloody hell what is it with people on here recently, specifying who can and can't reply to their posts, and how relevant it's got to be? Like a bunch of teenage girls. DON'T TALK TO ME!! SO UNFAAAAAIR!!!
He has a point. His comment was about the fact that a car review took place. The make and model actually being irrelevant.

The reply was directed purely at the fact that a particular car model was quoted. Thus taking the sentence out of context.

Your post is weirdly over the top. He merely directs us to the fact that the initial reply is unrelated to the conversation taking place. You have somehow extended a simple statement implying that something is out of context into a deep-seated need to control. Or something. Might I suggest you think more clearly before overreacting biggrin
Couldn't have said it better. The car reviewed was totally irrelevant to the post I was responding to. It could have been a Kia Picanto, but it would have been a car review. I'm not saying who can and can't respond to my posts, but at least quote the whole conversation to show some relevance (which there wouldn't have been in this case).

Person 1 - no car reviews any more
Person 2 - they reviewed a car today though
Person 3 - lists model and says that it's a special model and won't be last of the line like stated

What relevance to the conversation is person 3's comment?

I think the 2nd quote is well OTT smile

There was a couple of references to eyesight in the piece.

I think what some are missing with this new TG is that it seems to be a hit with non car people, my wife who has no interest in cars now watched it, she was in hysterics at the chilli bit, like it or not that’s why it is working with the current presenters, I think its great aswell, it is not a car review show though, hasn’t been for over a decade.

But just like the press car does exactly what's intended - distracts you from the boring tt who's driving it.

Thought the STO really should have been bundled in with last week's set of exactly the same type of cars; an overpriced road car that's been compromised to make it into a track car that's a bit pointless too.

Of course the real intent is an attention grabber and that it's even vaguely drivable is a happy coincidence.
