1 Billion a year in cable theft!!! That is unreal!!
Not solely the value of the nicked stuff, the the cost to replace, policing the crime, cost of disruption etc.

Cash for scrap is now illegal (which is good). I wonder how 's get on with that.

only a rumour , but scumbags get paid by cheque and very very nearby they are able to cash them easily without id etc

Caught a bit of this and noticed one of the coppers looked a lot like Minnie Driver.

A mate recently weighed in some legitimate scrap metal. You now have to have proof of name and address and your money gets paid into a bank account - no cash or cheque. There is a complete paper trail audit straight back to the person weighing the scrap in.

The police are really hot with the 3 scrap yards where I live, even to the point of carrying out spot checks and going in plain clothes with scrap to check proper procedures are being carried out.

As above, I am sure there are still plenty of dodgy scrap dealers around (apologies to all non-dodgy dealers) who will buy copper cable, no questions asked. I also wonder whether the cable gets taken back to Romania.
Loved it when the cop said 'that old chestnut' when none of the crims could speak english

If it ain't the poles it's the Romanians. The Romanians in particular should not be in this country the scum sucking vagrants.

Loved it when the drunk was on the phone, and the cop is hearing over the radio about blood on the blinds.. Just gives it the nod towards matey with bloody hands. Also sat in the station after already knowing his previous arrests listening to him claim hes only been arrested a few times hehe

Makes me angry with the car load of Romanians stealing the cabling, hopefully they'll do it wrong sometime and get blown 100ft in the air. bds.
