Something doesn't add up.
The group in Terminus built it up and welcomed in strangers.
Then some bad people came raping and murdering.
They then got it back
And instead of being a bit cautious about who they let in they suddenly started killing and eating people.
Bit of an extreme change.

So, have to assume they kept some of the original attackers alive - but for what purpose? Torture them in revenge?They killed and ate others who turned up instead?

How I interpreted it was that the bad guys 'owned' Terminus, Gareth's group went there, were captured and then repeatedly tortured and raped. Eventually they managed to break out and take over Terminus. But by this time they had been warped into thinking 'Be the Cattle or the Butcher' and survived by luring people in and eating them. They also seemed to have kept the original Termites in the containers as revenge, perhaps eating them on special occasions They killed and ate others who turned up instead?
I would have expected Rick and that to go back, kill the Terminus people then set it up again as a sanctuary..... Ah well..
After the fiasco of the Prison and Woodbury I don't think Rick is looking to set up a new camp, especially one full of cadavers (human or zombie). Plus they have their mission to DC.

Didn't Rick "rescue" the watch before being imprisoned? When he slammed the plate out of the guy's hand? Agreed about the sword though. Always wondered why they didn't all try and get some sort of sword/long blade as she was pretty invincible with it!
ETA I'm thinking about the wrong watch! You're right.

No. Gareths group had terminus set up as a true sanctuary, they got attacked by the bad guys who raped them etc but they then got terminus back but had essentially turned bad themselves hence the be cattle or butchers line.

We don't know exactly where the surviving residents are, we just saw them fall off the roof as rick peppered them with bullets.
