A Serbian Film really isn't that bad

I was pretty bored by it all tbh. It's just out to shock. The baby scene is not even an important part of the story so I'm not sure why they bothered to include it. I'm guessing for the controversy factor.

Luckily I am able to differentiate reality from fiction.
That makes it worse to me. It just makes you wonder what is going through the minds of people who include that type of thing in their films esp if it is not that relevant to the plot.

unfortunately the reality is this does happen in the real world, so whilst the film may be fiction, the scene portrayed is a reality and that's what would make it so hard for many to watch it.
But people make up their own minds as to the degree of unpleasantness they are prepared to watch.

While it seems perfectly reasonable to object to the depiction of infant rape in a film, what about adult rape? The remake of I Spit On Your Grave is rousing the same old debates about gratuitousness and condoning violence against women.

And then, what about he violent abuse of a man?

If one is acceptable in entertainment, why not another, or another?

There could be an argument made to say that it is hypocritical to object to extreme violence or abuse of one victim, but not of another.

Abuse of a baby is unacceptable, but abuse of a man is ok. What about a child? A teen? Over 18?

I don't know the answers, but I think that wherever you draw your line, someone else will draw theirs elsewhere.

What you find ok might be vastly upsetting or offensive to another.

i think the Blair Witch Project was kinda a victim of its own success - and had it opened worldwide on the same day would have been a shed load scarier. by the time it got to the UK everyone knew too much about it, but when it opened in the US they really didnt.....the viral stuff around it was brilliantly done given when it was.

that said it p*ssed me off and wasn't scary!

Embarrassingly, the only film I have ever found genuinely creepy/scary was 'Witches' - that'd be the Roald Dahl one....http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100944/ Something about their eyes i think....

Oh, actually The Mad Death - a Scottish film about a rabies outbreak was chilling as f**k when i was 8/9.

Signs was a 12A hehe I remember watching it. Only a few frightening moments - At the school (I think) when the thing walks past on the news broadcast, and when they put a knife under the door to see the reflection and holy bugger it's there.

Watched the Paranormal Activity 2 trailer the other day which sent shivers up my neck.

Paranormal Activity scared me witless too. I think its the "realism" of it all which gives it the edge over most scary films.

Yup, it had been available on DVD for ages before it eventually made it to the cinema. I had a mate who'd imported it from the US based upon the viral internet campaign, that sort of thing hadn't been done before and my friend thought it was real hehe

Enjoyed the film a lot on first viewing but it could live up to the massive hype and you could understand why folk hated it.

I found Paranormal Activity incredibly boring personally ... I was waiting for something exciting to happen and it never really did.

The Witches was pretty scary laugh

Especially when you are young, although when the top witch becomes her true witchy form it still creeps me out now laugh

Just like Blair Witch. Someone in America saw a old VHS of 'Ghostwatch' and thought that as no one in America has ever seen it, we'll copy it and hope that no one notices.

I also refuse to watch Saw. It's not the gory stuff, it's Jigsaw. Never seen anything so creepy.

Ah yes. The first time I saw Event Horizon I practically shat myself. It loses its power with repeat viewings like most. The first time I saw "Alien" was fairly exciting too. Especially as you knew bad things were going to happen to John Hurt's character..the anticipation was worse than the actual scene!
Event Horizon is a film I missed, so I've just bought it from Play who are doing it for £2.99 at the moment:

Well, me and Mrs Brannigan sat and watched Event Horizon this afternoon, and after warning her that 'this is going to be really scary!' (based on what others have said on this thread), we both looked at each other at the end of the film, and wondered what the fuss was about.

Great Saturday afternoon entertainment, but hardly scary.

That's ashame, maybe it's a case of too much anticipation. When I first saw it I was on my own, late at night and didn't know much about it.

I saw Paranormal Activity last night, and after all the hype I was very disappointed. It had a lot of potential throughout the film, but it just never really paid off.

The Mothman Prophecies scares the st out of me. I am a 28yr old man, massive horror fan, but at the risk of sounding gay, I cannot watch that film on my own.

Reading the book has taken some of the sting out, as it was a load of rubbish, but it still gets me.

Was there a bit with a collapsing bridge in that film, or am I thinking of something else?
