I can only assume that originally the plan was for the food to be prepared by the caterers, given the prices quoted, and then the producers decided they needed some extra jeopardy so decided to make the contestants cook it themselves.

I would have done a buffet... kept it under wraps & chilled until it was required.
( £10 / £15 per head.)

Might this have been one (the only one?) occasion where proper business attire might have been appropriate?

They look like children's TV presenters

They were just set up to fail from the start. Only one client so could only take the best price they were willing to offer then overpriced food that you had to cook yourself.

Track experience, museum and pit stop were the best activities.

As others have said activities are getting stupid now, why charge them xxx per head then cook it yourself.

No one saw them commit to cooking the meals.
The only thing the boys committed to do was washing up.

I pretty much agree with alot on people on here, the show has gone down hill but its still watchable at the moment

I was looking through some old clips, this one from the first series and you call tell the contestants are more business like as opposed to something that you would see in big brother. Maybe its to do with the fact that Alan Sugar was actually hiring them back in the day.

I'm trying to give it a chance by catching every episode and getting a stronger idea of the 'contestants' characters and flaws/strengths as they move through each task. The catering thing was just baffling in 'pods' and comes across as a late editorial decision that was just poorly implemented.

So both teams just so happened to offer to cook in both negotiations and then edited it both out ?

Yup, what else would that part of the team be doing instead of cooking?

Getting a bit fed up with the 'set-up to fail' order of doing things - who on earth in real life would pick the activities before finding out what the approximate budget would be?

Indeed, surely logical order is to establish client's maximum budget and what they hope to get from the day, before picking suitable activities and catering options.

Just watching that clip shows how different the constants were back then, much more mature looking and business like. Todays contestants are bordering on teenagers who are more concerned with getting 'likes'.

SAS obviously got to the point where he just didn't want to employ the winners anymore, and instead prefers to just chunk em some cash instead. He's seen the rot set in smile

The best business to come out of the Apprentice is Susie Ma's Tropic Skincare, Sugar invested £200,000 for a 50% share it's now valued at £150m, she didn't win the show she finished 3rd in 2011.
