I can only assume that originally the plan was for the food to be prepared by the caterers, given the prices quoted, and then the producers decided they needed some extra jeopardy so decided to make the contestants cook it themselves.
I would have done a buffet... kept it under wraps & chilled until it was required.( £10 / £15 per head.)

Bit like home, if the Mrs comes home early I have to do all my jobs in the 30 seconds between hearing the car pull up and the door opening.......
You mean frantically closing down the website your watching and shutting your laptop? ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
I pretty much agree with alot on people on here, the show has gone down hill but its still watchable at the moment
I was looking through some old clips, this one from the first series and you call tell the contestants are more business like as opposed to something that you would see in big brother. Maybe its to do with the fact that Alan Sugar was actually hiring them back in the day.

I'm trying to give it a chance by catching every episode and getting a stronger idea of the 'contestants' characters and flaws/strengths as they move through each task. The catering thing was just baffling in 'pods' and comes across as a late editorial decision that was just poorly implemented.

As others have said activities are getting stupid now, why charge them xxx per head then cook it yourself.
Apparently this was part of the negotiations...![](https://thumbsnap.com/sc/kzQDvjsL.jpg)

Getting a bit fed up with the 'set-up to fail' order of doing things - who on earth in real life would pick the activities before finding out what the approximate budget would be?

Just watching that clip shows how different the constants were back then, much more mature looking and business like. Todays contestants are bordering on teenagers who are more concerned with getting 'likes'.I was looking through some old clips, this one from the first series and you call tell the contestants are more business like as opposed to something that you would see in big brother. SAS obviously got to the point where he just didn't want to employ the winners anymore, and instead prefers to just chunk em some cash instead. He's seen the rot set in
