Watching Chris Hoy's story about getting to LeMans instead of Guy Martin tonight.

Last two episodes havent been worth watching.

Fantastic episode tonight. One of the best they've done yet I'd say, I guess largely down to the size of the challenge they're taking on.

I'd love to see Guy take the record - does anyone have any news on when they're next going for it?

Anyone know if gyroscopic balancing is allowed in the 2 wheeled class??

(Its seems like staying upright is the hardest problem!)

I think all the other episodes have just been filler round this one. This is what it's all about. This is what Guy is all about

Agreed!

There is still that nagging thought though, that there has been little success throughout this series, & that was the last episode.... Oh well, Mrs B1 glued to that fking Victoria rubbish, so muggins has done the washing up & now randomly commenting on some petrolhead website.

Enjoyed that a lot. Although he picked it up incredibly quickly I think he would have benefited from a few more runs before going flat out.
I thought, in hindsight, the run where he first went over 200mph, he should have just gone for it. Conditions seemed perfect.

Think they were just there for practice as the official run with whatever timing devices are used was not for a week or two.

Indeed, they only have a few short periods of time each year to set a record officially.

One of the drivers I work with holds a few land speed records in the speed range Guy is aiming for, it's a hell of a task to take on. Looks like the team he is working with are top notch though, so he has a decent chance if the conditions are right.

They will have to be lucky for the track conditions to be right though, it can sometimes take years for that to come right.

And the commentary claimed you can only set an FIM recognised record at these Bonneville Speed Trials yikes

I would have thought it would be fine to have gyroscopic only problem I can see with that idea a gyroscope big enough to keep something as big as that bike up would need to be big and heavy. Not good for a vehicle that needs to be as light and streamlined as possible.

I would maybe go for some small computerized wings that automatically stabilize it. But you then still have the problem of added drag of the wings.
Weight isn't such an issue on a land speed record vehicle, aero drag is what really affects performance.

That was great - what this series SHOULD be all about. Can´t wait for next year´s update.

For those who are interested there´s a feature about Guy and this attempt in this month´s issue of Motorsport Magazine.

Agreed, though the rest should have been binned and a series made around this attempt.

That would have been brilliant. Unlike the last two episodes, it almost seemed as though they had too much to show as it had pretty much no 'filler' content.

Looking forward to his future attempts at Bonneville now!

I think it was said the original pilot left the project so I was thinking how much who talking to who did it take to get to Guy?

Great that's he's got the seat so hopefully he keeps it and everything aligns that the machine stays reliable and the surface is right in the future for a proper attempt.

I am amazed a significant section has never been properly reserved and respected. Public access wear can't be helping anyone.
