Can't believe they were going to fully make the retaining wall fully old tyres would have looked a complete abortion job, those stone cubes looked so much better.
Also how do they get so many trees for their business and the house build I know they had a wood on their land but surely you can't go hacking the whole lot down?

He did say, somewhat tongue-in-cheek(I felt), that they were able to use any fallen trees or wood that was lying about. Also how do they get so many trees for their business and the house build I know they had a wood on their land but surely you can't go hacking the whole lot down?
Caught up last night with this one.
What an amazing build. Far, far better than the black box on the back of last week's 18th century place, and *they* didn't even touch the original bulding in the end!
My wife didn't like the stairs, being "too woody", but if it were my place I'd have gone for cast concrete, since they had concrete floors every where else.
The kitchen? I LOVED it! Really.
If this week's couple don't get a stload more business on the back of that episode, I'd be very, very surprised.
Such a talented man.

Stunning as it is, haven't they overlooked where they're going to put 3 kids in a 2 bed house?!
I wondered that, though before they announced the "big news" I just wondered what they were going to do when the kids get older and want separate bedrooms. Build a wall, I guess.Me being me, I was immensely sad that by building that glass corridor to the old cottage, they effectively removed any vehicle access into that courtyard. Perhaps they park somewhere else, I couldn't get see how close the workshops (and probably yard) were. The new bridge he added towards the end while she was asleep suggests quite close.
The only thing that jarred for me was that he went to the trouble of curving the wood on the corners of the balcony wall, but the handrail had square corners.

Really liked the bench, that was cleverly done, and I liked the way they'd connected the old and new spaces together. It was interesting that they seemed to end up using the refurb'd old house more than the new house for relaxing though !
Too woody for my taste really, and the construction of the new house was also pretty simple. The cladding on the walls wasn't going to keep any rain out as it had massive gaps in it, so I think it all comes down to a single sheet of membrane to protect the timber frame. I think I'd personally be happier with more effective cladding. Although maybe you don't get much horizontal rain in Cornwall ?
