Anyone been watching the US Master Chef? Started out here a couple of weeks ago. Totally different format, but quite interesting. A bit too dramatic of course, and Gordon Ramsay fronting it is weird.

Wareing has chilled out in recent years from what I've seen. Let his hair down, literally.

As soon as Roux stepped away I called it that it would be Wareing. I think he'll be a good fit tbh and I quite like the guy.

I still think the BBC are mental though. The irony being that Roux was on the One Show plugging various things only last week! [belm face at the BBC]

Hand't heard that Mr Roux had left - such a pity - it worked really well. Have to agree with the link above - Marcus may be a fab chef, but from seeing him on Great British Menu as well as normal Materchef as a guest judge - he doesn't have the warmth that Roux has. IMO the program needs that warmth to balance Monica's scary.

It'll just be too much with two angry/scary chefs.

Tom Kerridge would have been a better choice IMO - although i'm willing to give Marcus the benefit of the doubt - he may well surprise.

I like the guy but hearing "lush" and "chief" every 2s gets really bloody irritating!

Agreed. I love TK but do not think he'd be right for this.

I thought Marcus was OK in the last series of MC, personable and constructive criticism. Maybe he's changed his ways, we'll see.

As likeable as Kerridge he's not great at being on camera, which is an odd skill to quantify. He doesn't seem to have the self-confidence/arrogance to command the presence needed - odd as that sounds for a chap of his (physical and professional) stature and obvious talent.

I'm keen to see how Wareing fares. He may surprise us. If anything he's a better fit for Professionals but if he does well I can see him being offered the regular gig too. I'd quite like to see Daniel Clifton in that role. Had the pleasure of an evening with him and his brigade and he's a thoroughly nice chap who is firm but fair and very likeable. He also has the creds to back it up.

Kerridge also has a shellfish allergy, which could make judging Masterchef difficult, they couldn't be expected to rely on Greg's opinion alone.

I look forward to seeing Marcus Wareing, but I think Daniel Clifton would have been a great alternate choice.

I'm not sure if my ears are playing up but, thought I just heard someone say they cooked their salmon in the dishwasher.

I thought my hearing was worse than usual, but my wife assures me that is what he said.

Interesting method.

I heard this ( when I could hear better ) 40 years ago, somewhere I have a recipe for Dishwasher fish, and bear in mind we did not get a dishwasher til 30 years ago in our family so the recipie was never used then or now.

Theres an experimenter in this series. If he can tune in he'll be off. I can see him either crashing and burning or being a genius.
