I thought the song was ok. The delivery was flat and awkward

Yeah, thought we deserved a top 12 positioning.
It was a fk sight better than Sweden's effort anyway.

I think the UK song was ok too. The performance was dire though she just didn’t have the lungs to deliver it like the recorded version.

I initially thought the BBC sound was at fault but all the others sounded clearer and better.

You’re the only person who thinks so!

Forgive me... but when did Eurovision become such a big thing?

Todays news... Top 10 mins to this on BBC News. Meanwhile: Ukraine, Gaza, Erdogan, Patel v Sunak, cost of living, -0.3 to the economy, this weekends strikes ...etc - hardly get a mention.

FFS.

Her performance was much weaker than anyone else. It's a catchy song, but she isn't a good singer. Apparently that was the best she has ever sung the song and other performances were bad.

Surely they could have made an effort to find a good singer?

It’s a distraction maybe? Don’t get jealous because they didn’t ask you. Don’t know how to do a smiling emoji.

I don't know why people get in such a state over this. It's a daft but entertaining spectacle that shows once a year. I don't like Strictly or Downton Abbey and the like but I don't go online to make a fuss about them.

Aren't you a musician? I'd have thought that anything that encourages people to engage with songs would find favour.

I'm not 'in a sate' about it. Just wondered how it had come so far that it is the top story (for 10 minutes) on the main BBC channel when there are so many more important things happening.

As for being jealous.. I was in it with Terry Wogan live on BBC 1 in the 1980's, so have been there, and properly done it!

It's not about me, it's about news, not popular culture being the top story.

It seemed to die a death around 2010 for quite a few years but has somehow regained popularity and has now attained cult status.

It's the hottest ticket in town, despite it still being highly political and never managing to select the best song as the winner (imo).

I was joking Getcarter. As for the news, C5 just, Ukraine, Cyclone in Asia then Eurovision in that order.

That would have made sense. Shame, nice person, but not really a good enough singer for a song contest...

I enjoyed it - and contrary to most of the comments on this thread, thought that the overall quality of the songs was higher than usual.

Liked Sweden's entry - liked Switzerland too but apparently was in the minority there.

UK was poor. As many have said, she just didn't have a strong enough voice.

Can't we have a day off from the st show we live with every day?

Tomorrow will be a st story headlining, so will most of the rest of your life. Have a day off.

As the BBC paid a large chunk of cash to host Eurovision therefore it's not surprising they they put a lot of focus on it across all their platforms.

That Mel woman was grating. Calling it "Euovish" and saying Sweden were going to have to give another "perf". And would she shut up?
I saw maybe 2 minutes with Mel's commentary and had to look to my wife for a translation.

The BBC say that something like 11 million people watched in the UK, so it certainly has become a big deal.

But I agree that it shouldn't be leading the news bulletins.

The semi final performance is IMHO worse if you listen to it on YouTube. More strength and volume but a lot of tone and pitch issues, she can’t just hit the vocal notes to match the studio version. The quiet volume of the final performance may if anything have been the event producers trying to mask how poor she is vocally.

I’d assume the studio version was auto tuned to correct her vocal pitch issues and Eurovision require performers to actually sing live on the night without digital correction, hence it not sounding good at all.

Why pick a singer that isn’t strong live? I’d guess and speculate that the BBC didn’t want to win it and have to host again. Something good enough to not come bottom but also not stand a chance of fluking a win was IMHO the objective.
