The Godfather Part II

First time watching the original Part 2 and only watched the chronological version of the trilogy a long, long time ago on VHS (did it ever get a digital format release?).

Great piece of filmaking by making Part 2 both sequel and prequel to the first movie. A highly satisfactory and chilling ending.

7.5 rugs out of 10

The Godfather Part III Coda: The Death of Micheal Corleone

Unnecessary sequel, can barely remember the convuluted plot (something to do with the papacy).

Sofia Coppola wasn't all that bad, the problem is she's been shoehorned in and surrounded by Hollywood heavyweights in a Hollywood production, and even then the acting isn't all that great from the rest of the cast. For instance Pacino is descending to his big, wild eyed characature; Andy Garcia's rise from street punk hoodlum is unconvincing and generic. Generic too was the casting of George Hamilton as a slimy lawyer representing the mafia and a cheesy shoot-out scene.

It really goes to show how poorly written the film is and how passion was lost making the movie. The jump in time from Part 2 to Part 3 appears too big. Michael disapproves of his son's ambitions and his reasons to be legit doesn't seem wholely convincing.

The only good thing about the original cut was the perfect ending.

3 oranges out of 10

I've never felt the need to rewatch the series. Overall I find The Godfather the better film and didn't require a sequel and works perfectly as a standalone film.
For me, the second film is the best and third best avoided.

Damn, absolutely loved it and haven't laughed that hard at a film in a long long time...

Coach down on his luck takes over training of local community special needs basketball group for his sins.

Really good performance by everyone, and just super feel-good movie without being in anyway patronizing to the cast.

10/10

Me too, looks like it could be good.

As WH is a favourite of yours I wholeheartedly recommend this (if you've not already seen) I thought it was a great watch

Operation Fortune - The latest Guy Ritchie film. Absolutely bloody brilliant. Loved every minute of it. The fact that it's billed as a Spy Action Comedy film might make you believe it's all funny when it's not really. It has light-hearted banter between the characters, rather than it being a out-and-out comedy, but it's all the better for that.

It's one I'll definitely watch again. 10/10 from me. Best thing I've watched in ages.
Where did to watch this, google does not find it streaming ?

I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as The Gentlemen, his previous film. I could see what he was trying to do but it just didn't work for me. It's certainly watchable (if only to see Hugh Grant attempting to simultaneously channel Bernie Ecclestone and Michael Caine), but entirely predictable.

PH rules forbid the discussion - it wasn't streaming.

Totally different to The Gentlemen which I also very much enjoyed.

Agreed, what a disappointment.

Not a patch on Gentleman. Not sure what it was trying to do (James Bond? Mission Impossible? Decent Guy Ritchie movie?) but had none of the panache or thrills or humour of any of those.

Grant plays the same character that was much better and original in Gentlemen

5/10

Fairly straightforward and you ultimately know where it's heading.
But overall I enjoyed it 7/10

Sharper on Apple TV, it's about con artists, double crossing, etc. and is surprisingly good and well made. Nothing ground-breaking but a decent way to spend a couple of hours. Wife didn't fall asleep which is a rarity so kept us entertained!

Blade Runner, a timelessly brilliant film that, despite its legions of imitators, still has a unique aesthetic, with a great soundtrack and an almost hypnotic feel. Also looks incredible in 4K, generally I'm not too fussed about upgrading but in this instance it was absolutely worth it.

Watched The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent last night and was pleasantly surprised. Quirky little film with a Nic Cage, as er, Nic Cage and Pablo Pascale. The story was oddball and the cars lovely. Fabulous scene in the Speedster on LSD. I’ve probably not seen half of the films referenced but lots of little Easter eggs/parodies in there to classics made it fun.

It's in our watchlist, but I hate David Earl even more than I hate Matt Berry, so I probably won't watch it.
Watched it. Enjoyed it.

David Earl only has one character, but in this he wasn't a sleazy pervert.

The Hollow Point- Amazon Prime.

Drug cartel deal goes wrong with a few unexpected surprises en route.
Ian McShane, Patrick Wilson and James Belushi pull this together nicely. Very watchable.
